Your poor little sister! Not so long ago she was getting spanked by her school principal, and now it's her big brother taking a hairbrush to her bottom. I wonder the poor kid can ever sit down.
Mind you, aren't you the guy who had elves and talking wolves in his closet? Now have they also been spanking your sis, or do they just like to watch?

If she were 7 and you were 17, then it would be a little more a possibility that you might have applied your hand to her backside. -- if you were in charge and she "earned" a spanking ... since young children, it is said, should be spanked promptly.
Her "language" and attitude seem to indicate she needed a sound spanking maybe 5 to 7 years earlier, by her parents.
If, over the weekend, she had attempted to do something clearly forbidden ... like going for a drive with the family car ... just a slight possibility she did deserve your spanking her. Much rather, you should just put her on report ... I mean, she is old enough to remember for a couple of days.
It sounds as though you were trying to "set her up" for a spanking which, for years, you probably wanted to give her.
Were you wrong? Sure seems like it!! Rarely, if ever, should a father spank a 17 year old daughter. You were not her legal guardian. You were not taking care of her for a month or two. It was just a weekend; you were in effect a baby-sitter. Baby-sitters should not spank their charges; instead, report it to the parents. [exception might be a swat or two for a pre-schooler refusing to do what they are told].

Its kind of weird that you spanked her. That type of discipline is left up to parents. Yes, maybe she was wrong by treating you the way she did, but reacting the way you did was out of anger. Maybe if you had left the room and counted to 20 then came back in and talked to her, maybe she would have responded better. At the age of 17, she needs to be treated like an adult, even if she doesn't act like one.
Rule of thumb, you should always tell a child why they are being punished before you punish them.
never spank them when you are angry, its more like abuse or attacking them verses punishment.

RE:
Was I wrong to spank my 17 year old sister?
Well here was the situation...I am her 27 year old brother and dad was going to be gone for the weekend and he wanted me to stay at the house with her because he felt she shouldn't be alone plus my sister doesn't have a drivers license. My dad told her to listen to me and that I was in...

you were wrong to spank her but she was probably reacting to you in that manner because you were speaking to her in a condescending way. If anyone spoke to me that way, I'd say the same thing she did, and I'm your age! Don't treat her like a child, treat her like a sister! Love her, befriend her, talk to her. Work things out and negotiate who does what and when. You don't have to order people around and be an SOB just to make yourself feel like you can be in charge!

Umm...yea, I think so! I'm 28 yrs old with a 16 yr old brother and 14 yr old sister. I won't lie but at times I want to beat the $hit out of my sister because she has a smart a$$ mouth and her attitude stinks. However, I know that I'm not allowed to cross that boundary.

Definately dude, she is 17 years old.... You dont "spank" a 17 year old girl, especially if you are not the parent. There are other ways you could have went about disiplining her. Taking away her phone, or television or something like that.

If you have to spank a child over the age of ten, you've already screwed up. You've lost the right to spank, based on stupid parenting. Since you didn't even raise her (you're just the brother), you're waaaaay off track. Who raised the child to be so irresponsible, immature and ANGRY? You had no business trying to clean up your parents' mess (child-rearing) and they had no business leaving her with another ill-equipped child. She's better left alone. You guys need help.

Well I do not think you get any where in life by physical confrontation. Try some sort of negotiation next time. She was verbally abusive for sure, which triggered your anger. However, resorting to spanking was probably not the best choice.
