In the beginning of this year, I went to a wisdom teeth specialist and was told that to take out all four of my wisdom teeth it would cost almost $2000. I later went to my general dentist and told them what they said, and one of the girls there said that if I let the teeth come in a little more, then maybe the doctor could just pull them and it would be cheaper. Well, it's been almost 7 mts. now and my lower right side one is bothering me, but I really do not see any tooth coming in, so I do not know how the doctor would be able to do anything for me. I do not remember experiencing any bother with the others and I have seen one that has come in completely.I did schedule an appt. with my general dentist Wednesday, but to pay $63.00 to just have them look at it and I do not know whether they will be albe to do anything about it is kind of what I am not sure of. I had planned to just let them come in and just stand the pain. What do you think?

The one that is bothering you but that doesn't seem to be in is probably bothering you because it is trying to come in.

I had one out when it came in when they usually come in. I had three others that didn't even show up at all until long after they were supposed to have come in. I'd have a little bit of having one side or another bother me for a while, then it would go. A few months later it would come back. Eventually, and after a few years of short-term having one or the other bother me, they were all in as far as I could (although later, a couple of other "prongs" came in too!).

I've recently had mine begin to bother me because with the latest "prongs" there isn't much room any longer; but I can tell you I'm way past the age when wisdom teeth are usually an issue.

It isn't for me to wonder if it would have been wiser for me to just do what so many people do and have them all out as soon as they started showing up, but I can't help but question if all the wisdom-tooth-pulling that goes on is really necessary. I kind of liked my big, brand, new, white, back-teeth for quite a while. Over the last few decades everybody just automatically accepts that the wisdom teeth must come out without question. We're all told to have them out "because even if they're not a problem now they will be some day". I keep wondering why more people shouldn't just take the chance, and if the teeth create problems have them taken out when that happens and not before. I mean, if prophylactic dentistry is the way to do things, why don't we all just yank out all our teeth the minute the permanent teeth come in and replace the baby teeth!! That way no tooth would ever be a problem for anybody!!

Nobody knows how much your tooth is bothering you, so only you know if you really have to have something done; but I wonder if you may want to try taking a couple of aspirins or ibuprofen tablets when its at its worst and waiting to see if that particular tooth is in the "darkest before the dawn phase". The hurt most right before they break through. You were lucky you didn't notice the others coming in.

Why not leave the other teeth for now and just ask the wisdom tooth person about the one that's bothering you? If this person is an "either/or" kind of person who won't deal with just one then ask someone else.

There's a good chance the incoming tooth will stop bothering you again for a while or else it will break through. See how long you have to suffer and how bad it gets before deciding what to do.

I got mine pulled both surgically and non-surgically....
Both of my bottom wisdom teeth were severely impacted and hurt like all get out - and were removed surgically...the 2 top ones weren't too bad...and were both removed by normal extraction.
The 2 bottom ones, I had a dental surgeon that actually accepted payments because I couldn't afford the whole enchilada lump sum payment. I do think it's kinda bogus that your dentist is going to charge you 63 bucks JUST TO LOOK......I would find a different dentist or check with a dentist referral place for someone that is experienced in dental surgery that has a sliding scale basis and/or accepts payments. However, if the pain is extreme, go to the emergency room, they can see if it's infected & get you on antibiotics or get you something to help numb the pain temporarily until you can see the dentist
From experience, if the wisdom teeth are impacted, you dont want to wait 3 or 4 months to have em pull em. I did and ended up losing a molar in front of one of the impacted teeth because the pressure broke my molar in half. But, each person is different.
Hope all goes well...

Good Luck!

no. ! if you wait any longer it will just be more expensive. I dont know who told you that, but you cant just "pull" wisdom teeth - you have to have surgery. If you are feeling pain and not seeing the tooth it might be hitting the bone and thus it is preventing it from coming in, which is exactly why they need to be extracted surgically. What generally happens is the oral surgeon will put you under anesthesia and then drill the tooth into tiny pieces and get it out that way ( due to the complex roots of wisdom teeth) - but is cannot be extracted like any other tooth

Wisdom teeth are unpredictable. My older sister and I each only had one set of the four teeth. She only had wisdom teeth on the bottom, and I only had wisdom teeth on the top. We both had to have our teeth pulled.
Other people I have know have had to have their wisdom teeth pulled because there was no room for the teeth to come in without pushing all the good teeth out of the way.
Don't mess around. Find an oral surgeon who'll let you make a payment plan and get those bad boys out. You never need to feel pain to save $. Oral infections can lead to heart disease. Take care.

You are probably getting a slight infection under the gums that cover the wisdom tooth. Use salt water or some antibacterial mouth rinse and a monojet syringe and try to squirt it directly under the gums in that area. Take some tylenol or something if it's that bad and you want to wait. Or if it's not impacted in the bone and it's just a tissue impaction your general dds can usually cut it out.

your wisdom tooth could be growing in sideways under the gum.. I wouldn't mess around with it and I would never let my general dentist do this procedure. Have all your wisdom teeth removed at once and have a specialist do it.

I have had one of mine surgically removed and one pulled...it all depends on your body, the one that was surgically removed would not break through the gums and was in sideways..the one I got pulled just had a cavity...if they are really bothering you i suggest you do anything to get them taken out...I had a lot of problems with headaches and swelling

Get those out ASAP!!! The longer you wait, the more expensive it'll be. Go get them out and get over and done with it before you have any other type of problems. I got mine out (the four) at the same time and it didn't hurt at all. So just go for it. Th faster, the better.
