I have always gone to Sears. But I am thinking of taking them myself this time for a 1 year photo. Is it better quality to get pictures for family etc. at the studio than printing them say at WalMart? Any opinions!!

Go to the pro's! This is a once in a lifetime event...he'll never be one year old again!

I used to take the kids to professional studio (Wal-mart or Sears) all the time, but then started taking pictures myself. Going outdoors and having fun family time. If you have a digital camera and a little time you can take a bunch of pictures, and only print the best. They just seem so much better when I would take them myself. We'd go to parks, climb trees (kind of hard for a one year old!), sit in a swing. For fall pictures bales of hay and pumpkins would be the back drop. You don't even have to buy the background materials. Around where I live there are always great place to go take pictures. Apple orchards usually have great fall themes, and for winter Christmas tree farms. Just look around and you'll start seeing the possibilities. Any, enjoy the family time, it only gets better as they get older.

For special occasions I always take them to a studio- Not a sears or jc penney type but a REAL studio. The pictures turn out great but are expensive but it is worth it. But I also take alot of pictures myself.

Try both-

I use to work at sears and i love taking pictures so im going to say both. Parents can always capture some moments that sears cant like eating birthday cake and spreading it everywhere. But at sears they have some of the cutest poses that you dont have access to at home. So both either way you get good quality

For big occassions like 1 year photos, family photos, etc. I would use a studio. I really don't like the quality of wal-mart pictures. Keep a camera handy and take everyday snapshots.

I personally get my daughters pictures taken professionally once a year at a studio, but only when they offer specials like 1 pose of a set of pictures for $15. To me its worth it.

Go for the professional studio. You complement the 1 year photo with plenty of informal snaps throughout the year.

My daughter is 3 months old and every month I have taken a picture of her and they turn out just as good. A couple of them have been mistaken for professional pictures. I use a blanket as a back ground...it works great. Not to mention it saves lots of money doing it yourself and developing at Walmart.

We get family pictures once a year at a studio (I don't like Wal-Mart's quality of pictures) for Thanksgiving cards.

We get baby and Santa pictures for Christmas cards.

I take really good birthday pictures for thank you cards.

I take pictures daily (you know how hard it is to get great ones) and send them to family whenever.

I get these free coupons for one free photo from the Picture people

Also, take it with a digital camera, and if a friend has Photoshop, you could do cool effects, take unwanted stuff out and thing like that
