cats are very sensitive creatures, and yes they can see spirits. I am a paranormal investigator and I have found that most times there is nothing for you to worry about. cats are very protective, and would let you know if there was a real threat. If they start to act really protective of you, and hiss really loud at things that you cant see, then you might want to seek help. until then just relax and enjoy your new apartment.

No more than you can. It is the nature of cats that make them meow at things and drive you crazy. I bet you stare at things that are not in your sight from time to time too but others don't say you are seeing spirits just because you focus on something that is in front of you that normally you wouldn't.

So did my mother's cats after my grandmother died (she lived the last few months of her life at my mom's house). I'd say yes. Then when I brought my daughter over when she was a newborn she would stare at the same places the cats did.

Well for one thing there is not a shred of evidence that 'spirits' exist so your question is off to a bad start. However, Cats’ pupils are very sensitive to ultraviolet light, enabling them to see things humans cannot. The visual purple ion the epithelial rods of their retina allows cats to catch ultraviolet rays. Ah-ha I hear you cry! Suppose the 'spirits' are made up of ultra violet light? Nice idea apart from my opening point. There is not a shred of evidence that 'spirits' exist........

Cats have a tapetum lucidum which allows them to see better in the dark by reflecting light back through the retina a second time. In effect it is magnifying the light. This membrane often creates "ghost" images on their retina.
Maybe these are the ghosts they are seeing.
Or maybe....

All animals and children can clearly see spirits. I have watched my dog and cat looking around the house and up in the air and then to the corner as if they were watching something moving around...

They do that as part of a great cat conspiracy to freak out humans and drive them insane so they can take over the world.

Mine do the same. I think something must account for the way my Kurtney, for example, stares at the walls. But maybe their very sensitive eyes, ears, and noses perceive things we don't, too.

No but they have neural misfires that make them see and hear things. My cats had this issue in spades. It was very entertaining to watch them when they'd "get a wild hair up their .b**t...." as my wife would say.
