ok I am from UK, and Bio Diesel is made from Veg Oil. Its grown and used as fuel so it only kicks out carbon emissions it sucked out of the air it grew in.

Normal Diesel and Petrol is made from hydrocarbons locked away from our ecosystem from before the dinosaurs. This exra carbon emmission un balances our planet ok.

ABC for Gods sake mate check the facts about Bio before you post a statement.
Bio diesel is made from 100 percent veg oil. You mix in methhydroxide which causes it to split into bio diesel and glycerine which you can use to wash your mouth after talking bullshat lol

I also drive a 4x4 a landrover- why because I live on a farm. I have one vehicle which I use to work the land and drive to town. I should pay more tax because I drive a bigger car its pretty simple. I should not be challenged however by townies who just because they see a 4x4 assume everyone only drives their kids about. ( My kids walk 2 miles to school ) So stereotyping should be taxed even higher than cars that way the simpletons who make a judgement on a person by the car they drive and nothing else would help fund some real issues that need looking at like people starving.

uk.. if you are using bio diesel ,then you should get a reduction in road tax..i do i run an 1800cc duel fuel(LPG) vauxhall zafira, and although i get 20% less mileage than on a gallon of petrol(only put in 20 litres every 4 months to start and bring the engine to gas running temp approx 1..2 mins on mine even in winter) the fact that a) its only about 0.49p a litre..b) it is less polluting...c) its the best motor i have ever had...i pay £140.00 per year .this is based on CO2 of184g/km...personally i think road tax should be cheaper or even scrapped..Mr taxman hammers us at the pumps with fuel duty and vat,if the road tax was scrapped..i would quite happily pay an extra 1 or 2 p per litre..because if you have a vehicle you need fuel so that would stop all these road tax dodgers..what about the check they do at the post office on your mot and insurance? well i think the mot station could cover that..if you do not have current insurance you don't get an mot certificate..they could issue a window/no plate sticker to show you are both mot d and insured(bit like the Americans)

I won't attempt to explain away ALL of the taxes levied on larger cars. For one, I can clearly see your point about using relatively clean bio-diesel. Also, the owners of larger vehicles are already taxed on the additional fuel these vehicles burn.

What is missing from your calculations is the wear and tear on the road surfaces. This is a BIG reason that the big rigs, commercial vehicles and such pay a MUCH higher road tax than others. This is one of the reason this tax will not go away very soon.

Write to your legislators. If you want to keep their attention, don't harp on eliminating the tax, but on making allowances for the type of fuel, and how fuel taxes are disbursed, etc.

Where do people get the idea that taxing people more is a solution for anything? The evidence from past experience shows that all such taxation is just an excuse for the political classes to build bigger and better offices and employ all their immediate family and increase their expense spending. Poll tax. Congestion Charge. Cig and Booze tax. Which of these taxes have helped the tax payer or helped to provide solutions. None! Forget about tax solutions.

The fact that you run on biodiesel makes no difference. You should be driving a smaller car you greedy american.

[EDIT] Ok so you're from the UK, but that doesn't change the fact that biodiesel is like 95% regular oil and only 5% veg oil. If you want to save the planet get on your bike.

No you bloody should not! I am in the same 'boat' with a Landrover Discovery (we farm and need something for hauling trailers around)!

You should start making your own Bio Diesel, its really easy to do (so I have heard)!!!!

Those that run the more expensive vehicles ARE paying more tax in the gasoline they have to purchase. We need to be very careful that we do not start making it a crime or a punishment to succeed in this country. We will end up like France, or even worse, Russia. I will not stand for that, and neither would most Americans. Who would pay for all the causes of the liberals. Someone needs to produce income.

It matters not what you run on. An additional tax based on what you drive is complete BS! Aren't you happy you went "green" now? You pay sales tax when you buy a vehicle, you pay tax every time you fuel up, enough already.

The fact is there is a limited supply of fuel on the planet. People will HAVE to make changes sooner or later. One day we will go to the pump and there will be no gas, not because of supply and demand, but because we've used it all. We need to start preparing for that day now. So...yes, you should.

Abolish the road tax and increase the tax on fuel.
