i have a SHARP model # 3T-57 that was manufactured August 1978 in Tochigi, Japan
it is a tv/radio & digital clock ac120v 60Hz 12w

the sound for the radio and tv are fine i just can't get a picture

the thing is so nostalgic that i would like to have it repaired and if it could get the parts myself it may not take as long to get it back

Hi - i have seen service documentation for similar models and I can see why it would have sentimental value - its a cute little thing. TV screen is about 5 inch diaginal i believe. The SHARP A/V factory is situated in Tochigi, however the SHARP Parts Centre is located in Osaka - there is a slim possibility of sourcing speciliased parts through there.

Are you sure it is the picture tube? Not being able to get a picture is not normally systematic of a failed picture tube - It could be something straight forward not requiring specialised parts - eg power supply failure, possibly line output etc. Get a local service guy to inspect - you may find it will be something very simple.

Contacting SHARP Japan is worth the try if you still require parts - you can either try direct at (make your request in very simple and plain english)

or go through one of the subsidiaries - listed at

Well, is the purpose of getting the tube in order to save cost, or because there is something sentimental about the TV? I can tell you that if you do find someone who has it, you are likely going to pay about 2 to 3 times as much just for the picture tube as you would just going to buy a nice new tv from the store.

SHARP customer service would be the first place to start in terms of finding the part. I used to work for RCA, and we had a history department that pointed people in the right direction for parts, and troubleshooting help with older model products. I would think SHARP would have something similar.

I concur with Iknownutin, It is very unlikely to be the picture tube , the fault is more likely to be the line o/p transistor or something else . Don`t rush in and buy a pic tube without an experienced techs diagnosis .!
