EITHER of them is a tool for losing weight, not a miracle cure. EITHER of them can work, and have worked for many folks. The main question I'd ask is which my doc is most comfortable with and why! You are in a contract with your surgeon and his support staff. You MUST be comfortable with him!

Write your questions down, take them with you to your doctor's appointment EACH TIME, and write his answers as well. Buy a small notebook and carry it all the time.

Finally, my wife had a bypass, and has lost half her body weight, from 320 pounds. She's doing well, is no longer diabetic nor hypertensive, and simply feels like a champ! Her self image and confidence are amazingly improved as well. But it's not the specific surgery, but the effort she put into the entire process that has created those wonderful changes in her.

Talk to your doctor about your options. Gastric bypass could be an option but it does come with risks; you have to make it work and it's not just undergoing one surgery, it's having to go through a few other ones to cut away the extra skin. Plus, you need to undergo psychological evaluation, take classes, etc. I'm not sure what a lapband does.

Also, extremely overweight people do have a certain risk when undergoing anesthetics.

I've heard of people who were overweight like you and managed to make it through with diet and exercise, however, you didn't mention the diets you've tried.

I'll pray for you and keep me posted on your progress.

Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Either one can help you; however there are certain risks involved and you need to check it out 100% before you do anything.
My one friend weighed over 450 lbs, and she got that gastric bypasss. She lost a lot of weight, but it made her sick. She kept losing weight and losing weight and just couldn't stop. Now, she's barely 100 lbs and sick. So, please, be very careful and do some research on it first!

Hi,
It depends on many factors.. for the most radical result, a Gastric Bypass is the one to choose... also from a long term point of view... but again, it depends on many factors.. go here for a great resource on comparing them:

I have done a lot of research on the subject as I to am waiting for surgery. I have decided to have the lap-band as it is less invasive. Less than 24 hour hospital time. You lose weight slower but less likely to gain it back.
