No not really. What is there to be proud of? That we invade other people's land and tell them they must obide by our rules and have thousands of our young soldiers die for nothing? Other people hate us so much....September 11th......obviously we aren't that great of a nation if other people hate us so much. I think Bush should stop invading Iraq and spend more time on finding the son of b*tchs that killed so many fellow americans on September 11th............

I am not American but I think one should be proud of their country, so good for you.
However, the fact that you felt you needed to ask this question suggests that you or someone around you has had to think twice about it, or you're sick of Americans complaining about Americans.
If the latter is true then at times I can see where they are coming from i.e.: your question. "I am proud to be an American. Anyone else???" It has a hugely over bearing and dominating tone to it and sadly that is how Americans are shown and interpreted from within and outside their own country.
Before you go slamming me as a foreigner who has no idea what I am going on about I'll tell you a little about myself.
I lived in The States for 8 years attending High School and College; I was there for September 11th and saw the huge change that came with it on a global scale. I take it that the 5th yr anniversary may have had something to do with this 'question'.
There, that sorted.
America has obviously been a huge influence on the world unlike any other country in the modern age, good and bad, but it fights tooth and nail to stop the reverse happening.
While living in The States I came to a few conclusions:
1) Sadly many Americans are ignorant of the on goings outside The USA.
2) Americans are NOT bad people and anyone who says so is ignorant to the fact that it produced Martin Luther King Jr., Roosevelt, Johnny Carson, Walt Disney, JFK, Lincoln, Lance AND Neil Armstrong, Katie Kurik, Michelle Quan... okay are you getting the humour intended? Good.
3) America has to wake up to the fact that it is not 'Them' and 'Us'.
One memory that still haunts me to this day is a current text book I found at my school in The US, it was a geography text book entitled 'AMERICA and World’; I showed it to a friend and asked him what he thought of it. He looked at it blankly for a few seconds and gave up. I explained the whole 'AMERICA and World' insanity and only then did he see how ridiculous the title was.
4) Now I don't consider myself a 'Bush Basher" but right now 'AMERICA and World' is in some scary ar$e place and a lot of it has to do with some almighty bad decisions on his and his cabinets behalf.
5) Far too many Americans jump on the American beating bandwagon because they seem to think it is cool.
I don't think it is cool for Americans (or anyone else) to constantly belittle America and pi$$ and moan about the cr@p the American government may or may not be doing.
I do think Americans having the right* and questioning what their government is doing is a good thing but come on people loosen the noose a little.
6) *America needs to see that many other parts of the world have the right to do the same. It is sad some people do not have that right but don't belittle a foreigner and their country with questions like: 'Are you happy now you have so much freedom?', (I had more freedom in my own country, but I accepted that I was a foreignor and had to adapt) or 'Is it hard to be under the Queen's rule?'
These are actual questions I was asked while attending High school in The States. HIGH SCHOOL!!!
By that age most people should know that the Queen's Iron fist is now crippled with Arthritis and her reign of terror has seemed to have come to a merciful end.
(Again I hope you can see the attempt of humour with this last sentence; Queen 'Blood Guzzling' Lizzy the 2nd is still causing death and destruction where ever she see fit and no mere mortal can stop her horrific rampage until the other half of the golden amulet I hold in my hand is found.)
So yes, be proud to be American and be proud of the good your country has done but don't turn a blind eye when it seems to stray away from what is best for the greater good.
And one more thing, don't always feel the need to pound everyone over the head with your patriotism, it can get tiresome and we are all a little sore.
