Yes. Dogs have an accute sense of smell, and know exactly what is there in front of them. You can show it to them, but there is not a need to rub their nose in it. (Besides, I think this gives them a taste for it, and if you have a cat they think it's a buffet.)

That was a very popular method of teaching dogs not to go inside the house a while back, actually my dad used to do that to their dogs, but there are alternaives now, like putting the dog outside or in a room for a half an hour or longer, which is more sanitary, and they seem the get the hint a lot faster then their nose being rubbed in their own feces.

Yes it's very cruel! They have no idea why they are being punished. You need to get your dog housebroken. Lookup "crate training" or get a book on it...this is an excellent method. If your dog is FULLY housebroken, there could be a medical condition causing this...take it to the vet ASAP! Otherwise, it just needs to go outside more often. Most dogs can only wait a few hours after eating...if you're making her wait more than that, it's your own fault she did it.

Yes. They have no idea what they've done. If you're dog is crapping in the house, keep a better eye on her. It would be more effective to rub your own nose in it to remind you of this.

Do you mean rub, literally? Or just show him the poop? I mean why would you want your dog to smell like poop? That accomplishes nothing and makes everyone miserable.

Yes and it has no purpose. The dog does not understand what you want or what you are doing. A stern "no" and a lack of happines on your part goes farther. Put them outside and always lavish thme with praise when they do right. Most dogs want your approval.

Yes, and it will only make the dog fearful or resentful of you. especially if its been more than 5 minutes since the did it. the dog wont even associate what you are doing and what it did.

Yes. Animal experts all agree that this does not work. It confuses the animal. There are all kinds of books, websites, etc tht have good info on housebreaking a dog. Please check into it.

I don't know about cruel, but it is stupid and doesn't work. Dogs aren't disgusted by feces like we are, they are more likely to think either "mmm", or "yup I did a good job".

Absolutely. It's not her fault..it's her owners fault. Being cruel in that way will not teach her anything except that her master is inhumane.
