Why not just go with food? Clear, different glass containers, holding different shaped pastas.A three tiered hanging wire basket with onions, tomatoes and something else.A large decorative bowl with green& red apples. If you have the counter space, maybe a large fern on the counter to add life into the room. What about a wire basket holding wooden eggs(not fresh).I'm sure if you like this idea, you'll be able to expand on it.

In my last condo I had coke signs, and other coke things up on the soffit. In between those I had old fashioned things, like an old
egg beater that you had to turn a crank to make it work, a hand
potato masher. I found all kinds of these type things at flea markets.

Most contemporary rooms don't have "themes"
because they make the room look dated and country.

If you really want to though, find one center piece of art, like a painting, a ceramic craft, or even a child's drawings and base your wall paint, towels and dinnerware off of that.

You can go to HGTV.com, they have great ideas. If you host lots of parties, try a chocolate brown or maroonish shade. Go to behr.com and go to color smart. It works really well.
