This is a very hard question as most answers seem to put the dog or cat before the man or woman. "If he doesn't like my dog, he must not like me" or "He either accepts my dog or he doesn't get me". Either way, this reflects very selfish people who are secure only in their relationship with animals and do not trust people. Then - on the other hand - someone who does not like animals is generally not well adjusted, and may be hostile toward a partner. A good compromise is tolerance for "your" pet. Does not hate it, does not love it, but does not hit or kick it when you leave the room either. I prefer cats to dogs, so were we dating and you have a dog, I just may be indifferent. Does not mean I hate dogs and you - it just means that I have another preference.

I would not be with someone who didn't feel about animals the way I do and who wouldn't love my pet, if I had one. We would have never gotten together. So I guess, that the answer to your question is yes.
Although, I have posted an answer to your previous question that may clarify my position in your specific case.
Cheers.

you mean like a pet animal?:)
well if he is really showing that he doesnt like your pet or he hates it, and that he is really showing his disgust in your face i wanna say just leave him..why? because it really says a lot about his character.
but if you see that he at least tries, or his reason is like chronic asthma or something, then i guess he can stay.;)

i would b/cus my pets are my best friends, seriously. so if the guy i was going out with didn't like them or accept them, then he's not accepting me. im not sure i'd break up over it, unless i suspected for any reason that he would harm them.
