Asian-Americans are generally stereotyped as successful, law-abiding, and high-achieving minorities. The success of many Asian-American students has created a new "model minority" stereotype. They have been described in popular and professional literature as "whiz kids," and as "problem free." Some claim that Asians are smarter than other groups; others believe there is something in Asian culture that breeds success, perhaps Confucian ideas that stress family values and education (Brand, 1987). However, Asian-Americans' educational achievement cannot be attributed to natural superiority or shared cultural and family values, but rather to the interaction of those cultural and family values with social factors (Siu, 1992).

I think it all depends. I am Chinese American and was basically raised the American way. I married a traditional Chinese man and we are raising our children the typical American way. We do expect good grades from them, and for them to go to college, but other than that, as long as they are happy and respect us, it is all good. We have no bias as to what race of person they marry or anything else.

this is the 1st era interior the history of the international the place nearly all of youngsters are nevertheless "babies" interior the sense that they are completely dependant on their mum and dad till they're vote casting age or above. in my opinion, this makes them rebellious and argumentative with the aid of fact they have not have been given any sense of administration over their lives. while i replaced into 14, maximum folk I knew went to paintings at that age, paid board and had an grownup social life, have been too bushed after paintings to play game or argue with their elders, while i replaced right into a student and had the capacity and sense of repression to argue approximately each little thing, and did. Time itself will remedy the conflict. yet for those searching for some solutions now, possibly the hot style of school-based vocational practise(I talk right here of what's going on in Australia)can provide some youngsters a feeling of grownup objective and a drain on their verbal capacity which will enable mum and dad to have some peace....................
