Neither because war is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

The only people that win are those that collect the profits.

Both! The United States could put huge holes in the ground where cities and nuclear sites had been but the conflict would not end their. There might be a lull in the war, but the fighters of Iran and those who join them from many Islamic countries would turn strictly to guerrilla warfare and attack us unmercifully for what might be called The Second 100 Years War.
A war between Iran which is large Country with a very long history of leadership, scholarship and survival would ultimately drain our resources and a trap for our soldier if we put them on the ground in Iran.
You see the devolution and sacrifice the Iraqis put up, well that would be doubled or much worse in Iran. We would be caught in an untenable position between the choice of killing millions or being killed one by one by two for years to come.
You may think we are religious people, but many Iranians are other worldly about their devotion to the Islamic religion.
Also, the rest of the Western Democracies would be looking down there noses at us because we would have lost completely our moral authority in the world. All of our enemies would take heart.
It may even seem that we had defeated Iran after the big beginning stage, but that loll would not last very long because they would not give up. We would find ourselves as a Pariah country, an outcast among the world governments and the fallen leader of the West.
And Iran would have suffered terrible damage and be thrust into a mortal battle which would probably result in an even more damaging struggle with the United States.

If a war occurs between the USA and Iran it will be because the USA, once again, has violated international law. The USA has signed an international treaty that forbids military strikes against nuclear facilities. Iran has done the same. It has no plan to strike the USA's many nuclear facilities. Therefore, if the USA goes to war on this issue it will surely engulf the entire world. And the USA just keeps making enemies - North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, etc etc. The people of the USA, as usual, are being lied to day and night by the corporate media. Men and women everywhere just want to be left alone, whether they are Iraqi, Iranian or American. It's the unaccountable liars within government who have their own agenda - the trojan horse within our governments. Those are the true terrorists as the entire world is now starting to realise. Nobody wins such a war. But it will sure cost the USA big time if they try.

Posters here boast of the invincibility of the USA. Face the truth - you never knew what it was like to be in a war on your own terrritory. You are completely inexperienced. Never underestimate those who you threaten. The world has changed a lot and you are big bullies with great 'spin' but wisdom says one day you will bite off more than you can chew. The new war is not the conventional kind. A bit of humble pie is in order here.

Don't worry about an invasion, though gas prices could go through the roof. Iran is ranked #16 in military power, the US is #1.
However, those rankings are misleading. The US military machine is so far advanced above what the Iranians have it is like comparing Model T's to high performance mercedes cars.

Per GlobalFirePower.com: Iran's stats:
Aircraft: 954
Armor: 2,380
Artillery Systems: 4,594
Missile Defense Systems: 1,760
Infantry Support Systems: 12,500
Naval Units: 65
Merchant Marine Strength: 143

Same source, for the US:
Aircraft: 18,169
Armor: 29,920
Artillery Systems: 5,178
Missile Defense Systems: 35,324
Infantry Support Systems: 2,441
Naval Units: 1866
Merchant Marine Strength: 470

As you can see, we can blow about anyone out of the water, or of the land. Our missile systems are the best there are, and the cruise missiles can be programmed to hit specific targets on a street. Our real strength lies in our airforce, where our sophisticated planes and weaponry can fairly well demolish another nation's military from the air-which happened in Iraq. Our problem is, and will continue to be any ground actions involving troops. Basic guerilla warefare is a no-win situation, no matter how well trained or outfitted our troops are.

The big problem if Iran makes any agressive moves is that they can easily destroy the oil transport systems around them, and cripple the world's energy supply in just a matter of days. Most likely if they do take any agressive action it will be towards Israel, who militarily is ranked at #25 but has 1,230 aircraft built by the US plus nuclear capability as well as our missile technology. Iran builds their own planes, and they are not exactly high tech.

Looking at your previously asked questions, I assume you are Iranian or have close ties with that country. Honestly, no one is a winner when it comes to war. Iran is breaking International Laws. They are also threatening the US and Israel. The US is already in Afghanistan and Iraq so taking on another country would stretch us even further. It would be a mess! I would think that we would ultimately win but I also think it would be bigger than just the US and Iran.

The U.S. would win militarily but we would take heavy casualties in the civilian populous because Iran would rely on terrorism.

Many experts predict that the U.S. will lose a major city to a nuclear attack via terrorism in about 10 years if someone does not take action against Iran's nuclear capability before then.

That would depend on how bad the Democrats tie the hands of the military. Done properly, Iran would be crushed like a bug in about a day or so. With Dems interferring, about 200 years and they they would have us pull out and give up just before the last enemy soldier fell.

Iraq had no standing army, very little in the way of arms, vehicles and personell and yet they daily hand the US it's **** with a side of fries.
Iran actually has weapons, a standing army and vehicles built after the cold war.
That's why the US hasn't gone into Iran yet, they know full well that they'd run home with thier tail tucked firmly between thier legs.
Just like Vietnam...
