Does pop culture interfer on student's studies and how?

Pop culture meaning comic books, television, talking on the phone. Sherman Alexie wrote "The Joy of Reading: Superman and Me," where he learned to read by reading comic books. My question did that only work for him or has it work for others?. Please respond ASAP.

Of Course it does like many external factors. Pop culture has given us more entertainment and tools to help us spend a good time but on the other hand it has taken dedicated studying time. Students are nowadays spending less time at school, studying, doing home work etc. Why? because tv, comics books etc are simply more entertaining.

The positive side is that kids now are more exposed to a lot of issues through the different media they consume. Some are good and some is bad. Kids now know about sex from an early age, they know more about the world and in general are more aware of what is happening else where.
