I have a chicken in the slow cooker. My husband and I are having my brother and sister-in-law over for dinner tonight, and I'm not sure what sides to have with the chicken. Should I stick with mashed potatoes and gravey and a veggie? Or I was thinking homemade mac and cheese and baked apples. Its chilly and rainy outside. What are some yummy ideas?

Why not have hashbrown casserole and fresh green beans, cooked with bacon bits? You could have coleslaw and hot biscuits too. Here's my recipe for hashbrown casserole:

1- 16 oz. pkg. frozen hash browns, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1/8 cup diced onion, 1 stick melted margarine, 1- 8 oz. carton sour cream, 1 tsp. salt. Combine ingredients and pour into a lightly sprayed 2 qt. casserole dish and bake in a 350* oven for 30 minutes.

My family loves this and when i take it to gatherings, i never have leftovers.

I like the Mac and Cheese idea! If you feel like switching up the Carb end of meal, how about roasted potatoes? I just quarter 6 Yukon Gold potatoes put them in a roasting pan with 4 Tbls of Olive Oil, 1/2 of water, oregeno, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Roast for one hour. Yum!

For a veggie you can also try salad as a starter. My fave salad is Chop Salad!

Luv the baked apple idea as well!

Chicken flavored wild rice is excellent with chicken. Green beans are good to have as well. Those are my favorite things to have with chicken so maybe you could try those :-)

With chicken I would have a side of either a type of noodles or rice and vegetables (corn, mixed vegetables, broccoli), and a bowl of salad.

I like the homemade mac and cheese and baked apples.
Sometimes when I make chicken I also make rice with homemade gravy, collard greens (Glory), sweet potatos (Glory) and corned bread. Yummm.

How about a hearty salad with different cheeses, raisins, bacon pieces and egg slices and garlic mashed potatoes?

Or brown sugar glazed carrot slices and a baked potatoe?
