try washing with water and baking soda.
If that does not work, water and white vinegar.

Well first thing I would do it fill the bottle with hot soapy water and let it soak over night.
Then the next day pour it out and while it is still wet pour some baking soda in the bottle and evenly shake it around to coat it.
Let that sit for a few hours to overnight.
This should help a lot. This normally works with most bottles.

boil a pot of water and sok the sports bottle in it of 1-3 minutes, that's what I would do on my husbands that he used for work

You can't.
The plastic smell is from the toxins (the plastic releases them)that are poisoning your water.
You should buy better quality (different plastic) bottles.

Before you use it, wash it with baking soda and warm water. You may want to let it sit, full for abour 10 minutes before you wash it.
