As a chrisitian, aren't we suppose to lead by example? Can you speak the Good News and then call others names AND use profanity?

Your question infers that all Christians use profanity and name calling. That is a pretty tall order of judgment on your part. Could it be that there are impostor Christians on this site making a bad name for the honest Christians? Are the ones using profanity and name calling really Christians at all? Isn't a Christian an imitator of Christ? Hmmm...
I agree, there are people posing as Christians that use profanity and name calling. But this does not mean that if you are a Christian you should be labeled among them.

God bless your endeavors to stay true to your faith.

deedledees,
"Why do Christians feel it is OK to use profanity and negativity towards others on this site?"
I can't speak for anyone else, but I can tell you why I do it.

There is a thought out there in the big world that a Christian is someone that doesn't 'swear' or smoke, or 'cuss' or do anything else 'bad'. They also expect a person who tells everyone not to sin, and portray what it is to be a 'good Christian.'

The reason why I might do things like that, is to shatter that expectancy of 'perfection.' I'm not a Christian because I can act wonderful. I am a Christian because I have faith in God, through Jesus Christ. The Legalistic doctrines of the fundamentalists have poisoned the ground, borrowing from a Gospel parable, and are continuing to do so. They say that we have to act a certain in order to come to God. I am determined to let them and everyone else know that they are scripturally incorrect.

So I may include in my sentences a Hell, or a Damn, or other words just to show them that I'm not one of those. I believe that coming to God is a huge "Come-as-you are Party." He wil deal with everyone who comes to Him if He wants them to stop something in particular. I have faith that He will. I also have the Bible to tell me how he reacts to things.

I do these things to bring the Gospel to the forefront again, the way it should be. It was the prefection of Jesus Christ who made it possible still to this day, to come to God, and be saved.

Not your ability to act wonderful.

Unfortunately, my Love, some people can't use regular speech without using profanity and when something such as religion makes them annoyed they fly off the handle and their vocabulary goes even further down the toilet. Yes, they should be leading by example. they should turn the other cheek or at least take the plank out of their own eye before trying to help me with my speck. We all know at least one person who can't make a full sentence without a profanity. There just seems to be so many of them here. Blessings.

Dear Deed,

i think everyone one here who knows Christ or doesn't know Christ- know that Profanity and negativity (or a unloving attitude) towards others is not Christ-like.

It is not our place to judge who is a believer and who isn't (that's up to God) although i would say the percentage of believers on this website are not as high as we would think. When someone says: why do Christians, this and that? and someone responds with a F Bomb- it's fair to question if that person truly knows the Lord.

Christians don't feel it's ok. And equally as important Non-Christians don't feel it's ok or fitting of someone who is supposedly to represent God's love.

Your exhortation is great- we should lead by example and moreover have our words seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:2-4).

Blessings,

Nickster

The bible does tell us that blessings and cursings shouldn't come out of the same mouth.
As for those that feel it's okay, they haven't been convicted yet, or they just don't realize they are grieving the Holy Spirit. Plus contrary to popular belief, even Christians aren't perfect, but we are supposed to be more humbled and submitted to God then those that have yet to proclaim Christ as their savoir.
We can get angry and sin not, and we can answer and defend questions without being or having potty mouths.
I see people have said a "true Christian" wouldn't be cursing, have we forgot that we're still human, we're still in the flesh, and we won't stop making mistakes until Christ returns. Which is why the word says we are to die (repent) daily and grow in grace.

Yes, as christians we are supposed to lead by example. I think that people forget that from time to time. We aren't supposed to judge and using profanity to me is ugly not just for christians but people in general. It's ugly. For the christians out there it gives us a bad name so can you watch what you're doing

The use of profanity is clear indication that the one posting is not of The True Christian Faith. However... even those of The Faith can slip into the negative mode when confronted by the vileness of so many of the anti God crowd. I have let a zinger or two go back at some vile poster myself... no different than condeming the one influencing them.

You know, I've always wondered about that. I use less profanity than a lot of Christians I know and I'm atheist, how does that work?

Christians should never use profanity. Would Jesus have used it?
Those who talk abusively should follow the counsel found at Colossians 3:8---"But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."
