You came here to the Religion and Spirituality section. You read the question. If you don't like what it suggests, why not hit the BACK button and go on with your life? No one is forcing you to answer or even read questions posted by the religious or spiritual. Just because something made you think, doesn't mean it's forcing it on you. No one ever claims that someone's non-belief is being forced on them even though many questions here are posted by "non-believers."

Mature answers only please.

The problem is not people that ask questions like, "What does Leviticus 22:18 mean?" or "Does Christianity accept this practice?" (The Bible chapter was a random one.) The problem is that some people ask, "How can you possibly ignorant of God's existance?" or "Aren't Muslims dumb?"

Here's my point: It's OK to answer everything from a theological perspective, but you cannot tell somebody to convert. Whenever I, a Jew, ask a question, the responses I get usually say, "I hope you learn to accept Jesus so you don't burn in hell." I don't mind hearing the Christian perspective on a question, but it is annoying when people insist that everyone else must be of the same faith.

By the way, Atheism and Agnosticism are spiritual beliefs. They are the ideas that god doesn't/may not exist, which is an idea about the supernatural, and therefore a spiritual belief. People of this group have every right to answer questions from their viewpoint, but it's when people call others crazy for believing, not believing, believing in the wrong thing, etc. that one is "shoving religion down your throat."

Good question and well explained remarks.

In my view a lot depends on the wording of the answer or the question. If one answers expressing it is their personal view or the way they see it, others should not think that what is said is being shoved down the throat of another. However I do see that position is not always taken Lol Lol.

I been called a lot of names and told how stupid I am for only trying to make people think and not to just answer with a memorized script. Of course for me that is just fine if they do answer with a momorized script, for I come here to learn and that I do. I can learn about the pure innate nature of a lot of individuals. Ha Ha Even learn a lot about myself here.

I just kinda let everyone say what they want here and go on. If I am gree to ask and answer the way I choose I must let others do the same without any complaint, That is only fair.

See I am not even complaining about those who tell me where to go, call me names, and say that I am stupid. Sometimes I know I am stupid and maybe in their view the names they did call me. Also where they tell me to go so far I have not visited those places so maybe it is a good suggestion.

With that, If you think my answers are trying to shove something down your throat, I am sorry for that. I will try to watch that and be more careful with the words I choose.

Now do smile and have a good day if you like! [See I did not even tell you to have a good day and sorry for telling you to smile]

I think we need at least 1 sin a day so we can be forgiven OK

It's not just on Yahoo Answers that the issue of Bible Thumping or Bashing occurs. All religious preachers just pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats.

When the science community makes a discovery or modifies a theory they publish a paper for all to view, speculate on, and debate. Invariably such discoveries open up our simplistic minds and expand our horizons. Examples would be the works of Einstein and Hawking, to name a very small sample.

So why do preachers have to continually pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats. Why do they stand on street corners and hand out leaflets, yell at passers by, gather huge crowds and push unsuspecting victims over in the belief they will be cured of whatever mental or physical ailment invades them, if they just believe in the theory of God.

Why can’t the believers of religious theory just behave in a decent manner, in much the same way as the scientific community does. The answer to all of these questions is simple. They know their theory of God is wrong, and saturation mental and verbal bombardment is the only way they can convince people, and they do it directly or indirectly for money.

When you ask a question that is relegiously oriented in which your already know the answer. The intent of the question is not for you to find the answer but to make others think. That is how asking a question can be intepreted as persuading opinion.

Also, you do not have to click here to see the question. Sometimes it appears on the front page. I tend to just refresh the front page.

OK - here is one for you. Last night someone made a post that said

"Please pray and may our God treat those who died in 9-11 well and forgive them for their sins for not being good Christians".

Now - if this wasn't an attempt to smear other religions, while using one of the worse incidents in US history to push their religion, then I don't know what is.

It was sick, twisted, and just typical of the Christian extremist who's backward policies our Government leaders are following which are making horrible foreign policies which created these very bad people who did this.

Wake up, if you keep pushing your religion on others, someone is going to eventually push back.

It's the way the question is asked. A lot of questions are doing that. People post questions and then say, "here's proof and you're an idiot if you don't believe it." That's shoving it down someones throat.

1. not chosing to belive in a god is a form of spirituality. you believe in god, thats fine, but if I dont, why should I take abuse over it?
2. lots of these questions are phrased in a way that is rude or offensive "why dont athiests understand they are going to hell?"
WTF is that?
3. I generaly see these questions on the main page, and to me, the whole idea of answers it to see many different points of view.
4. The internet is home to some sorry A** people who only want to upset, they are best ignored IMO.

I post a question regarding the bible, wondering how christians view this that or the other detail.

I get 15 messages telling me that I'm going to hell for disagreeing with their interpretation when I was asking what their interpretation was in the first place -- and none of them bother telling me that, just that I'm going to hell for disagreeing.

That's shoving it down my throat.

The Yahoo Answers Phantom snuck up behind them, put a gun to their heads and forced them to answer. I know you want mature answers only, but really, I'm being sarcastic. I'm just trying to show how silly they are. A girl answered one of my questions by asking "why should people answer your question when they don't know who you are?" When I read that I thought "Woman, I didn't put a gun to your head and ask you to answer me." Steups!

Yeah, people need to be more sensitive I suppose. I bet most people who do uch thing had a bad experience with someone trying to convert them. Some people are pretty forceful when they preach unfortunately.
