Well, I did manage to sleep for 16 hours straight, in 2000. I had flown out from Phoenix Arizona to Sydney, overnight, no sleep.
I got to my hotel room at 11 am & was asleep by noon & I woke at 4am the next morning - worst jetlag of my life, until this year, when I did a 3-day there & back trip to England (I had 2 sets of jet lag after that trip).

If you have a cold, yes, sleeping would be the best medicine. Your body can rest and heal when you sleep. Now, doing it every day is not good, but while you are sick, do it.

I am not a Dr. but under normal circumstances, I would say it is too much. If you are sick, it might be a good thing. If you have been under a lot of stress, I think it might be a good thing, if you can stay asleep, that long.

If you're overworked and stressed, with a cold to boot, that much rest might do the trick to make you feel better.

Usually it wouldn't be. But if you're stressed out, sleep deprived, and sick, THEN it is good. Just remember to wake for meals!
Happy snoozing!
