Ditto what "motherofthree" said. When my daughter started eating even baby food around 6 months or so she was terribly constipated to the point where her poops were as hard as a rock and she would bleed, tear and have hemmerhoids. I kept talking to the nurses and the doctor and all they kept saying was "try the 3 P juices and fruits (prunes, pears and peaches) none of which worked. Finally I got fed up and went to the doctor for the last time and told her to give my daughter SOMETHING that would work because it makes no sense to have a 6 month old constipated when she's eating rediculous amounts of fruit and still ending up constipated. She finally put her on Miralax (Glycolax - generic) and that did the trick. She's turning 3 next month and still has some issues with constipation but she hasn't had the medicine in a couple of months so hopefully your little one will grow out of it too. Good luck and don't give up on the doctors until they find something that will work for your child.

My daughter had the same problem! I know what you are going through! It is so hard to see her little face cry when she had to go! The juice thing doesn't work.
I know the apple eating is helpful. But go to the doctor and they can give you a prescription for Myrilax (sp). It is safe and gentle and you mix a little with water and let her drink it and within 48 hours she will go without pain! You will have to do that once a day for a few weeks until she gets regular but I promise it worked for us and i know several others that used it to!!! good luck and call that doctor!!!!

First I've call her pediatrician and have her examined to rule out any health issues. Then I'd give her apple juice, raisins and then stir prune baby food into something she'd like to eat such as chocolate pudding or anything else with that consistency. She should continue to drink lots of water. I'm sorry that she's going through this. It's hard for her and for mom. Good luck!

Honey greatly improves bowel movement. Foodstuffs rich in fibre such as broccoli, cabbage and beans are the VEGGIES you should feed her. There are some laxatives like Isabgul and others, that can be purchased after proper medical consultation.
However, I suggest you go through this article, and let me know if you found some solutions to this problem. This contains some practical methods for your right help. All the best.

sign and symptoms
-abdominal pain and cramping without distension
-palpable movable fecal masses
-normal or decreased bowel sounds
-malaise and headache
-anorexia nausea and vomiting
interventions
-simple constipation may resolve by using only dietary changes or methods to change the habit of retention
ie increase water and fiber intake, decrease sugar and milk intake
Consider using a laxative or stool softener as prescribed
your going to have to research drugs on your own i cannot recommend anything to you...sorry
you might consider administering 30-75 ml's of mineral oil chilled or mixed in a cold drink to disguise the taste twice a day, if you do chose to do that i would recommend giving a fat soluble vitamin as mineral oil may interfere with absorbtion
13 mos i know but if your child is potty training you can change retention habits by having the child sit on the toilet for 5-10 minutes after breakfast and dinner to assist in defecation

Buy some suppositories for the times when she is really in pain. In the meantime try to avoid cheese, peanut butter, and other things like this that may cause constipation.

Try adding about 1/2 or 1 oz. of dark Karo syrup into her milk. Both of my kids had problems with constipation, and the Karo syrup worked great.

My son suffered constipation as a youngster. My health visitor suggested placing him in a warm bath and whilst he soaked, to gently massage his lower belly. Just feel around til you feel a slightly 'hard' patch and rub it gently for a few minutes to relieve the pressure - this combined with the warm water will help to naturally shift the obstruction.

Get a good herb book they are very good for health things also visit your health food store and ask for advice they have loads of pills and things i went to the doctor for bad acne once and nothing worked i went to the health store and the creme she gave me worked straight away. take plenty of unpeeled fruit , green leafy vegtables , wholegrain cereals and wholemeal bread, for in soluble fibre
water at least 1.7 litres (3 pints ) a day, and plenty of exercise. cut down on refined carbohydrates. wheat bran is insoluble fibre known as roughage eat foods high in fibre and not processesed foods add two teaspoons to bran to a small tub of live youghurt or to your cereal each day for a week increase it to three teaspoons in the second week.
