well it depends on what you are looking for i know walmart has futons for cheap and they are of a moderate quality. a furnature store is also a good place to start there you can negotiate for a better price.

It pays to go to a local bed specialist that does orthopaedic beds. You pay for delivery but you can speak to them direct and they've been in the business for many years. You pay a small fee for delivery but you also get better service, ie faster, more flexibility with the time and my one called me an hour before they turned up, in case I popped out of the house.
I bought a 5 ft bed (bigger than a single, smaller than a double) and got drawers underneath for spacesaving reasons. It's a fabulour bed and orthopaedic. You can buy a nice headboard to jazz it up as you wish, depending on the decor of your bedroom.
Hope it looks great when your room is finished.

What's their budget? Pottery Barn has some beautiful-quality furniture, and the catalog gives you some great ideas for decorating.
Here are some other suggestions:
Look in the local Newspaper under Housewares for sale or moving sale,
Check out the Closeout Furniture stores in your area,
Garage Sales,
Ethan Allen is also another Quality Furniture Store.
(High end stores have a room filled with discontinued items, offered at a reduced rate, check them out)

Check out wal-mart.com. They have added some what appears to be nice stuff for bed rooms. I like the modern look and I found something that I really liked there and the price wasn't to bad for the whole set up.

Purchase a new bed. Have the folks research all the "junk" left behind on used bedding...get something practical though that you can grow with and won't cramp your sense of style.

Go to IKEA they have everything or you might wanna try different department stores. But Ikea will have majority of the stuff you want...just don't buy paint from Homedepot because they can never recreate the same color even with instructions on how y=to make it, for that go to Lowe's.

You might want to go online and look under Lea's furniture......they may be called children's furniture collections, but I just filled my house (at 64) with their wonderful clean looking lines.....iron and wood....all iron....really appropriate for all ages....and very reasonable prices...then go to Sam's Club and pay little or nothing for great mattresses and springs...good luck and have fun...

Depending on how old you are, and what your taste is I would ask them to listen to your ideas. You can go to the internet and check out Wal-Mart and other such stores to show your parents what you like.
