Just to let you know

I sorted it by doing a system restore back to yesterday. I don't know what caused it but there was Softkey Trial, Install Spy (uninstalled Install Spy after) and today an Encyclopedia.

But thanks to ian6868 - it still didn't work doing the Mange thing (there was a different error!) and I am an administrator.

thunder2sys I had to get the defrag to work before he got back (he's back now!)

abitofchange23 yes I had enough space (60gb! out of 80) Good one! (cat did it!)

Feeman there could be a virus, spyware, etc - but no internet on that one?

either the launch file is damaged or it could be there is not enough free space on the hard drive....you need at least 15% free space for it to work............sorry can't help you anymore.......tell your dad the cat did it!

looks like your Windows is a bit screwed up. Looks like you did an OS upgrade or something strange.

Also, even if you got a defrag to work its going to take longer than 30 minutes. Also, whats the urgency to defrag? If you father used the machine yesterday or even last week nothing you could have done in one day would have caused it to be that fragmented.

try this, i dont think you have the right to run a defrag
log off
log on as admin
if your log on screen just has icons for you to click on hit ctrl-alt-del at the same time
now you should be able to enter a user name and password
user name-administrator
password-(leave blank)
thats how most people have it set up
now right click on my computer-choose manage-now highlight defragmenter-now click on defragment
that should do it
good luck
but just so you know you said you have 30 mins to get this done chances are this will take more than 30 mins to complete
