As time goes by it will get easier I am sure .. find something to keep your mind busy .. is there a hobby you have always wanted to learn? In addition, send your son a web cam so you can both see each other on the computer.
Hugs from a Loving Mom to a Brilliant, as well as beautiful 8 year old Jared and Our Angel, Zachary (taken to soon but who will always remain in our heart) ~ Mel

You have to learn to let go. There is a time when all children need to leave the nest. It's time for him to make it in his own world. Please don't call or email him everyday or you may alienate him.Think of all the interesting new things you'll have to talk about when you he's home on break. You may find that you also have some new found freedom if you are now empty nesters. Don't be sad, be happy for him and remember that no matter how old he gets he'll always need his momma.

All the things I was going to mention have already been posted here.
So let me just say it could be worse....and it WILL get better. Growing up in England, I went away to boarding school at the age of 11 & I was separated from my parents for 1-2 months at a time. The first time I phoned home, I was in tears. I was so embarassed, when another student saw me. But it DID get better - pretty quickly.
GOOD LUCK !

DO NOT call him everyday unless you never want to see him again. just call once in awhile like every week or so. once a month send him a care package with some of his favorite goodies. write letters or send cards. try and keep the vocal communication down to a minimum. he's there on his own and needs to learn things his own way. I'm sure if he runs into any trouble he'll call but for now, let him go and let him be. no surprise visits either.

I think you will get used to it. Or get a webcam and talk to him when you can. Try to keep your mind busy with something. I now it's hard. I'm a mother too and I now how much we love our kids. There are times when us mothers have to learn how to let go. Read the answer above it's true. Good luck.

Call him whenever you miss him. I'm sure he is home-sick as well. You're not the only mom who has a child away to college. All moms are missing their children.
Pray for him. He'll be fine.

Empty nest syndrome? Just call him and communicate through email. TRY not to be too much of a pest. He is your baby....of course your going to miss him. It makes the reunions even more sweeter.

Get a fulltime or parttime job if you dont already work. Also start hanging out with friends or make new ones. Spend time with family (sisters brothers, etc).

Get a nice hobby. One that involves a lot of your effort. But make sure it's something you actually enjoy.
