They fear anything that is not biblical. That book to them is their whole world and they cannot see beyond it. It is so sad really because there is so much more out there to enjoy and learn about.

I am Atheists and i have the same problem with a lot of friends and relatives that are all christian.
The thing that bugs me the most is that most of them aren't even good Christians(they go to church like once a year) and not even that great of a person, but when they hear I'm atheist it's something snaps in they're brain and they immediately start. and they all say the same things. That they're right and I'm wrong that thee is a God up there and that I should turn my face to Him, telling me of hell and heaven like I've never heard the concept before in my life (ffs I've read more from the bible then some of these guys).
The sad thing is that I look at some of these person's faces and you can see genuine happiness, they have found a non believer and that gives them the great chance to perform a conversion, they're one step closer to heaven if they accomplish this, or even for trying. But from my point of view is a completely different thing all I see is a person's who's beliefs I respect wiping his feet on mine.
why they do this?
1 because THEY know they're right and the rest are wrong
2 because this is a opportunity for them, it's like yahoo answer they get 2 heaven points for trying to convert and 10 for successful conversion.
3 Because this is what being a christian is mostly about trying to "save" non Christians. And here's the proof: the first 4 commandments(out of 10) are about venerating God and not other "false gods" and only 6 about being a good person in life.
I don't know if this apply to other religions...don't want to offend with out having any proof.

ok, please forgive me for asking...what is a mystic exactly? i am not trying to be rude, ignorant or stupid. You are the first one I have heard that is a mystic. My brother practices Druidism, is that anything like it>?? Christians believe in the Bible, and they hate for anyone to disagree with it,knock it, or infringe upon it. They have a saying : God said it, I believe it and that settles it". I agree with that too, but I have questions about the Bible, too that many pastors/bishops (think the LDS church, the bishop is the same as the pastor) and priests cannot answer. Instead,I get the lame excuse : we don't know Gods will" yes we do!!??!!?? It is called the Bible! anyhow, to answer your question: because Christians think they are always right and they use the Bible to back them up...that is why.... I applaud you for being different in a world that needs some other advice other than a book writtn by man and deciphered by man...I do believe in it, but I also question it,and i don't go to church, because i have other views that what is in the Bi ble... ( yes,I am pro choice, don't ask! lol)

Christianity is completely against anything spiritual, yet it's a religion. Try and find the path that leads you away from haters, it's hard, but maybe haters are here to show us how NOT to be.
EDIT (a Mystic)
A Mystic is a philosopher that works towards gaining spiritual fulfillment. A mystic tries to approach situations by being truthful to himself in his actions.
(that is just a little bit about being a mystic, there is a lot more to it)

Stop talking to them. They hate being ignored.
In my view those raving Christians don't deserve to be taken seriously by anybody. I'm not a mystic, but a practitioner of magic.
I think that we're being frowned upon for the same reason, namely that those people know at the depth of their shrivelled souls that thre is something else there, beyond the shallow confines of their "faith",
but where would they be if they let it into their lifes. All their pretty little certainties might crumble...

Mystics are frowned upon? In what strange tradition would that be happening? The Catholic and Anglican churches prize their mystics, just to name two Christian traditions. And where would Buddhism be without mystics? Wicca has mystics. Emanuel Swedenborg, whose works many people still read today, was a mystic. There are mystics in nearly every imaginable religion.

I personally believe that the spark of the Divine would be less bright in my life if I wasn't inclined to be a mystic....there is more of an element of faith in being a Mystic than most 'young' Christians can tolerate....it is threatening because they haven't ears to hear their God and so they rationalize things in literal terms...afraid to step into love, knowing, and spiritual maturity...but maybe you are looking for confirmation that you are on the right path despite the opposition you have faced....people are all at different places...put you trust in God alone and giggle alot because you have sensed the essence of Creation....JOY!!!!!

I will be honest when I say I am ignorant as to what exactly being a mystic entails. I am a Christian and while I would love for everyone to turn to God, I know thatfreewill makes that impossible. I also know that as long as your beliefs don't have to negate mine then I have no enmity toward you. Even the Satanist has his purpose. I would be interested to know what your tenets are as a mystic?

They don't understand what a mystic is. I too am a mystic. I have encountered the Divine force personally. I don't need a religion. I am not going to 'Hell'. We scare the --- out of the average adherent to 'religion'.
