Because we are always in a hurry to go and do everything.
The Europeans take their time.
We rely on preservatives, fast food, etc... because of that hurrying....

The whole "debate" over this subject is longstanding, I guess, but really grew out of all proportion (no pun intended) when the FDA in the Clinton Administration extended the definition of obesity--I should say overextended it, because it now includes people who in no way could be considered obese. Anyway, the fact is, while there are undoubtedly Americans who could stand to lose weight, the obesity "problem" is not as great as the liberals in the media and government would have you believe--it's all part of the liberal mindset that says rather than focus on solving the real problems that face America, it's better to just invent problems and complain nonstop.

I think it is because in the US food is cheap and abounds since childhood, whereas sports are seen as forms of competition rather than fitness.

I don't understand chapaton's answer. Suppose Americans really do everything more hurriedly than Europeans, which I doubt (you also forgot to mention other continents' peoples). Eating fast is unhealthful, but I don't see why you get more calories from it than from taking your time when eating. Preservatives don't make fat.

Are all Europeans judgmental? honestly not. in spite of this what's fat to a minimum of one individual is to not a various. nevertheless others have scientific subject concerns. human beings are all fat in case you base your assumptions on the Olsen twins. (length 0 or something close to that). in spite of this so is the the remainder of the international that's not starving their butt off. As for lazy, why is it that united statesa. for the final one hundred plus years ought to deliver our women and adult males persons over seas to freshen up wars and dictators?

A few years back we passed Samoa as fattest nation on earth. We're #1

If you ever travel to another country you feel everyone is malnourished at first but then when you get back you see just how fat every one is, kind of nauseating.

We live in a self-gratification first society. Only when we are forty pounds overweight do we begin to be concerned about the long-term consequences.

We have starbucks for breakfast (look at calories), jack in the box for lunch, and kfc for dinner. Not to mention a midnight snack of Blue Bell ice cream with Hershey's choclate syrup.

because over the years America has changed

when I was a kid we spent a lot of time playing outside ,
ridding our bike & running around

now a lot of kids spend time on the computer , phone &
infront of the TV instead of getting some good exercise
outdoors , sad but true

because too many americans have grown accustomed to being waited on, whether it's fast food, or calling cleaning services, or calling up someone else to walk our dogs! face it, most people in this country are just lazy and obviously don't care about their health.

Too many trips to get fast food. Too much affluence and self indulgence.
