What HAS happened here?
spare the rod, spoil the child?....
morality to low for your taste?
and what about all of these new disabilities?
ADD.... ADHD.... Autism?
Personally, I think it's something lacking in our diets and T.V. babysitters...
Yes, parenting has changed....and mostly for the worse.....

Not counting the increase of grandparents raising their children's children! I have a solution to this growing problem....don't pay... no government handouts, under any circumstances, if the pregnancy is conceived while the parents are legally responsible, then they pay and when the girl becomes of legal age, i.e. 16/19/ 21 (that I know of) -US/CAN- then she supports the child... all children born out of wedlock should be the responsibility of the parties involved, period.. forget about telling the youth of today to "wrap-up" - they are not listening, HIV has risen at an alarming rate in North America, 4- teenagers an hour contract the HIV virus! - then we pay for the treatment, the babies, all of it.... STOP .. all we have are Babies pushing Babies!! Parents of the 60 and 70's started this mess, but were a lot more responsible because their parents were involved in their lives - in a POSITIVE way, their children were the "flower" generation and produced the beginning of the drug problem we now deal with. My biggest concern is WHO WILL WORK- we now have a generation of young people that know nothing but drugs, sex, violence and living off the system, being raised by parents of the same upbringing.. good luck in the next 20-yrs!!!

I don't think it's laziness on the part of parents. I think it is the lack of discipline available. I recently read the question of a 13 year old who said her mom and dad have lost all her love forever because they spanked her and grounded her for getting drunk and coming home later than she should be.
I think she needs her bottom tanned again for her attitude as I believe that all parents need to take an active role in the discipline of thier children. I think if that happens we will see less runaways and fewer lazy parents.
Our laws today are designed to prevent parents from taking an active role in parenting thier children. You can not do this, you can not do that. Todays child abuse is yesterdays dicipline. I have hard this over and over and it boils down to one thing.
When we as a nation try to interfere with moraility, such as laws against spanking and disciplining children, we cause more havoc then we are solving.

I don't know if it is laziness, but lack of parenting skills. Plus, discipline seems to be a touchy subject these days. Many parents just give up and let the kids do whatever floats their boat. Very dangerous I would say.

I don't believe, in general, it is laziness. I think it has to do a lot with changes in society as a whole. We have made drasitic changes particularly with regards to information: gathering, delivering and storing. This information causes us parents to adjust based on societal needs and pressures and raise our kids in the microcosm established by us and the world around us. Laziness may still be a factor is some but overall I believe it is just different...and needs to be so in order to raise intelligent, strong and capable individuals to be able to contribute to and adapt to the future.

I love being a parent, I have 3 kids with 3 different ladies becuase I'm a playa. All my kids are great and they really help out alot around the house, I have them wake me up in the morning and give me a bath, then the oldest puts my clothes on me as I lay in bed then the little one crawls over and ties my shoes. When I get home from a long hard day at the office I have them cook me dinner and put on my pjs. Then I give them all there daily beating and its off to bed. Man I love being a parent. World's #1 DAD!

I don't think that they're lazy, because most of them I know are having to work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet.
