I really love both my "all-clad" stainless steel pots and pans and "le creuset" dutch ovens. the le creuset dutch oven warms up really quickly and holds heat for a long time, so my food always cooks very evenly. all-clad is a great general purpose brand because their pots/pans also heat evenly and are very durable. i chose stainless steel over non-stick (except for my frying pans) because i heard somewhere that teflon can be toxic, so it's not good to cook your food with it every day.

Le Creuset is outstanding. Expensive, but worth it.
All the advantages of cast iron, plus it's nonreactive, very stick resistant and easy to clean up. My wife and I have been slowly building up our collection ever since we got our first piece.

Cast iron is great, but it takes years to get it seasoned right. Calphalon just plain sucks. I'll stick with my Le Crueset. Don't get the copper bottom pans or you can't cook tomatoes or anything acidic.

I really like the Pampered Chef cookware. They have a home use and a nicer professional series. I love mine and use it daily!!
