That's a really good question. A lot of people believe the garbage uneducated people claim. I can't give you a straight answer, but here are the facts:

If you are a home owner and want home owner's insurance, you cannot have (or admit to having):
a Staffordshire Terrier
a Doberman
a Rottweiler
a Shar pei
a German Shepherd.
These breeds are on most insurance company's blacklist. For whatever reason, they have been dubbed "dangerous" dogs.

However, according to the American Humane Society, the dog that has bitten more people than any other specific breed is the Labrador Retriever. In the mid 1980's, it was the Cocker Spaniel - for 5 straight years. Yet, neither of these breeds is on the insurance blacklist.

Why? Because people don't generally hear about the attacks made by labs and cockers. That's the only reason. Reporters want to make sensational headlines - so they run with the pack, so to speak and will add to the misconceptions that it is a dog BREED rather than a PERSON's MISTREATMENT of a dog that creates a dangerous animal.

In my opinion, there are no dangerous dogs - just bad owners.

But don't take my word for it, read the article in the link and you'll get the idea. The author was obviously a well educated person and wasn't interested in following in the footsteps of all the other bad reporters of the world.

I work at a rescue, and see many different dogs, of different ages, from different situations. Whatever people say about pitbulls, boxers, rottweilers, dobermanns, staffordshire bull terriers is not true.

It is entirely on the owner to train their dog to make sure that their dog rewceives the correct training. These breeds are simply protective and loyal, and have a natural guarding instinct and nothing should be done to encourage this behaviour.

I know at least four of each of these breeds and they are the nicest dogs i know. I must also admit that I was bitten last weekend by a West Highland White Terrier.

Larger breeds are more powerful and admittedly can do more damage, but with the correct training and care, no breed can be classed as dangerous.

NEWS FLASH:
All dogs can be dangerous. No dog is any more dangerous than the other.

A dog who is mistreated by being neglected, scared, starved, not spayed or neutered can severely increase the chances of ANY dog to bite regardless of the breed!

I have never met a mean Pit Bull. I have met many... I am so sick of people who are very ignorant talking about how Pit Bulls or Rotties or Dobbies are bad dogs. Such crap. Look at the stats people! Look at the media.... look at the reasoning behind it all.

Pit Bulls are not monsters... usually the monster is located at the other end of the leash!

FIGHT BSL!

Blame the deed not the breed!

Easy question to answer. We have ha six attacks on people in the last few months here. Guess what it was. Pitbulls. Sorry pitbull owners but those are the facts. All you have to do is look at the facts and which dogs are attacking. Anyone that ignores this is just closing their eyes to the situation. Yes breeding and owners have something to do with this. But it still comes down to the pit bulls. Wake up people. People say it is the owners. Well is funny becasue the same owners usually have kids. So i ask you. Why would anyone want to endanger thier own kids with having a pit bull. I dont understand this .

Most people blame the dogs breed (ie;rottweiler; pitbull, etc) But it all really depends on how the dog is raised. Are they abused in anyway? Are they mistreated in anyway? If you beat a dog they will turn on you. It doesn't matter the breed. If you have a Poodle and you beat that Poodle daily, then at some point in that dogs life it WILL turn on you and become a danger. It all depends on how the dog is treated! Breed has nothing to do with it!

While dogs like the pitt bull and the doberman are bred for agressiveness, NO DO IS NECESSARILLY MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANY OTHER. People get agressive dogs because they are agressive people, they want to protect something, or they want to show how tough they are, like their dog is some sort of living phallic symbol. Anyone that gets a dog should attend training classes. You can usually find some good ones at your local Petsmart. Your dog learns obedience, and good things like how to stop when you stop during walks, and how not to piddle on the carpet. Also, get a caage for your dog. It sounds cruel, but it makes it a LOT easier to train them. a dog won't poo where it sleeps, for example, so you can put him in his pen at night, or when you go to work, and you won't have to worry about a messy surprise. Then take him out, let him get his business done, and everyone's happy.

ANY dog can bite, ANY dog can attack (did you hear the one about the Pomeranian that killed a baby?)

Larger dog bites are usually the only ones reported, so bigger dogs get the bad reputation. Because smaller dog bites are not reported, dog bite statistics are not very accurate.

Many people will say, pitbulls, rotts and dobes are the most dangerous. (Mostly ignorant people, who dont know anything about those breeds) Not true. Idiots buy these dogs as a status symbol, and do not raise them properly.

I don't like to stereotype. I have seen the good and bad in every breed of dog.

Maybe the question should be, which is the most dangerous breed of human?

Pitbulls are not dangerous.

When they are trained to fight, yes, they will be dangerous. It's all about how they are raised. I have seen a 9 lbs terrier bite someone! Each dog is different.

There is not a breed of dog that is more dangerous than others.

Thier aggressiveness depends on how they are raised and how they are handled.

Some dogs will fear bite because they havn't been properly socialized.

Others will bite because their owners don't let them know who is boss.

There are many reasons why dogs are aggressive.
