please don't get any more cats than you can afford to properly take care of. you need the proper amount of time, space and money.
Time to spend with each cat so it knows it's loved and all you have to play with cats.
Space is your house big enough for all of these cats, so you must be looking for a big house
Money it costs money for food, litter medical bills and toys etc. you want the cats to have quality food nothing that the first ingredient is corn or something to do with corn. make sure you have enough litter boxes for all of these cats. it is recomended that you have 1 litter box for each cat and at least one on each floor of your house. cats need toys and check them on a regular basis so you can throw away the ones that have stuffing coming out of them so your cats don't choke on it or it cause an obstruction. make sure you have enough money for medical bills spay/neuter each cat, have their vaccinations up to date and be able to treat any illness or injuries that come up. especially with lots of cats, you have to catch the illness right away or every single cat will come down with it.
I really wouldn't recomend more than 5 cats.

In most rural areas there are no restrictions on how many animals you can own. Like on farms you can have lots of cows, but you could also own lots of cats. You do have to make sure that all of your animals are fed and taken care of properly. Each city and some counties have their own laws about how many animals you can own within city limits. Sometimes the restriction is only on dogs, but other places of restrictions on total quantity of animals. Owning lots of cats can be very hard because if they don't get a lot of attention they can become feral and then they won't want anything to do with anyone. You also have to keep your cats on your property as much as possible. Owning more than a couple cats can be a problem but I have heard about people who own a dozen or so in a house and they are all friendly cats. I think that is probably the maximum you could own before they would start to rule you. Also if you kept them inside you also have to clean litter boxes, and make sure all the cats use them. With LOTS of cats this job would have to be done every day. Cats are a lot of work but if you think you can do it then all you need to do is look up the local ordinances about animals.

Leslie and Kaska are both right. The bottom line is, though, can you take care of the animals? Keep them clean, fed and vaccinated? And do you love them?
I used to know a guy who kept some 20 or 30 cats in his house, and an equal number outside. And the place stank, and he didn't try to control the breeding- except to encourage it! I frankly hope someone took the cats away from him. They were sweethearts, but they deserved far better than they were getting.

Most larger cities will have a limit of the number of animals you can have, some communities do not have limits, but if you have more than 5 or 6 cats, it's unfair to the cats. If you have 'lots' of cats, they can become almost Ferrel from lack of human contact.

Hi there... every US county/city has their own regulations as to how many pet cats can be kept in private homes. You have to contact your local humane society (http://www.pets911.com/) to learn what is the legal limit in your area. Even if someone can afford to give care to many cats, it may not be allowed unless you obtain a license to operate a care facility.
For example here's an article that shows an example of the legal limit in San Jose: http://www.americancityandcounty.com/news/San_Jose_pets/
