I've always been a rather sedentary person who doesn't exercise regularly. But yesterday evening, I did some jogging and had to stop after 4 rounds (1.6 km) because I felt really exhausted and breathless. That night, my head felt very heavy and I developed a fever. I felt very groggy and could not stop shivering. Why did I get a fever after my exercise? Is this a sign that something is wrong with my body?

When you exercise, your bodies defenses are fighting the soreness, leaving the body vulnerable to catch a virus. Since your body is not used to the exercise, your body was fighting those stressors and not the virus/flu bugs it should have. Rest and take care of yourself, and get back into a routine of exercise slowly.

It sounds like a coincidence. You possibly caught the flu somewhere & didn't realize it then excersizing just took whatever reserves you had to fight it off & then they were gone so you've been in the throes of the fever & chills. You can't get that from excersize, it's just a weird coincidence that it happened at the same time.
At first I thought you were talking about hives. My father & I both get red itchy welts when we excersize. Now I take an antihistamine before working out but he says that's how he knows he's hit his target range. Good luck & get better. don't give up on the excersize -- I'm SURE it won't happen again!

I'm not an expert, but I know that I also have had that similar experience. I visited my doctor and he said that it was just a coincedence and that I had a virus, nothing wrong with me.
I went to see another doctor also, and she said that it is very uncommon, but it is possible for your core body temperature to rise after vigorous excercise.
I would get a complete blood work up done and just keep track in a journal of your excercise/ physical condition, maybe you can track a pattern.

I asked a friend just now, and she said that if you eat right after a workout that your body raises it's core temp, I don't know why though.

Living a sedentary lifestyle,you are not used to exercise. Running a mile to start is not a good beginning. Start slow and build up your stamina. Make sure to stretch properly before exercising. You obviously overheated and cooled down to fast which is why you now have (more than likely) a cold. Dress properly for the weather,Warm up by stretching, start slow, build up your endurance, and most importantly, find a partner to exercise with.

Strange. Maybe nerves, or you didn't do enough to warm up before starting? Ask a doctor.
