I got enegaged over the weekend. My mom is out of town for the next 2 weeks and doesn't know yet. Should I tell her on the phone or wait til she comes home?? My father already knows and I don't want her to think she wouldn't have been the first person I told, but she isn't here.

My fiance ASKED my dad for permission, so he already knew you see. My parents are divorced for a long time.

Tell her now... then have a fun little Mom and daughter celebration when she gets back home! You don't want her to feel left out... and you don't want the "magic" and the excitement of your recent engagement to wear off by the time she arrives. I'm sure you've told the story a few times already. Don't you want Mom to be part of that?!?

Well knowing me I wouldn't be able to wait because I get excited and I wouldn't be able to wait to tell her something like that.
Only you know your mom best. Do you want to see your mom's reaction or would you rather tell her immediately. It sounds as if you can wait because you posted the question on here. Would she be disappointed if you waited to tell her? Only you can really make this decision (I know that saying gets old after a while) but really sit down and think this one over. Do you have speaker phone? Maybe tell her the news then put her on speaker phone with your fiance! Or you could wait and have dinner with her and your fiance and if she asks just say you wanted to tell her face-to-face! Good luck and congrats!!

Congrats! Depends on your relationship. Are you really close and tell her everything? Would she be happy for you?
I would call my mom and future mother in law in a heartbeat because it is an exciting thing and I would want to share the news with them before they heard it from someone else.
If she would want to find out in person and you want to see her face, then you may want to wait. Seeing that it is out on Yahoo Answers right now, I wouldn't wait long. You don't want her to find out from someone else.
Good Luck!

Telephone your mother and give her your good news, she will understand that she is not the first as your father was asked for permission, and she will know that you were telling everyone who crossed your path on the way to the telephone... Don't wait until she returns however, she will be hurt if you wait that long...

If my daughter had just become engaged and didn't tell me ASAP, I would be hurt. There is nothing wrong with a phone call to give her the happy news. She'll come home on a cloud and have lots and lots of ideas and plans for both of you.

You should tell her when she gets back. Absolutely news best deliverred in person. Make sure she knows you wanted to see the look on her face when you told her.

since your parents are divorced, i'd tell dad to stay quiet and have my groom go threw the motions for mom just like he did for dad!
