I have a brother and sister, and have been unable to get one of them fixed as yet. They are 7 months old. I grew up on a ranch, having tons of cats, but it was never an issue (being on a ranch) of having to get them fixed. We don't want to end up with kittens, but I had thought that cats matured or went into heat at 6 months old. Female has shown no sign, but male has definatly matured. So now I need to find out exact facts here as to when cats actually do hit their 'mature' stage, and will they actually attempt to mate with eachother.

The reason why I am even asking is because in my experience, male cats begin to spray as soon as they are able and make a mess of your house, and female cats reproduce like crazy. I am in the dark with these two because my female has NOT gone into heat yet, and my male only sprays in his liter box, which I find very bizzare - not that I'm complaining, but I can't figure out how or why I have gotten so lucky when I have been unable to get even the male fixed as of yet. He will be getting fixed, and after that I won't have to worry as they are both indoor cats and are not allowed outside. I lost my other cat that way and refuse to allow it again as my kids would be very upset. Thank you for the answers, at least I know I'm not just totally wrong about them.

Yes they have both reached the age. You will find your female crawling along the floor rubbing up against the male. Yes they will mate, and yes you will have kittens. Get the boy fixed first, its the least expensive one to do, then when you can, get the girl fixed, but make sure she doesn't go outside before she's fixed as the strays in the neighborhood will mate with her too. The male will also start to spray in the house. That isn't good either.

You really need to get your cats fixed, there should be programs in your area to help with that. Just about all cities have some kind of program that helps to reduce the cost, and they can even do it in just a couple hours.
They will mate with each other if the female goes into heat. They can have kittens together but there will likely be problems with those kittens.
You said that you have been unable to get one of them fixed, if one of them is fixed then they cannot have kittens but you still need to get the other one fixed ASAP.

Oh yes! they will, cats are very fertile and when they come in heat they are ready to mate, no matter who it is! I have 2 cats who are brothers and sisters, Maxy and Bushy, they both came in heat at about the same time, and it happened, she had 5 little kittens all healthy. I wish it had not happened but because of life circumstances it did. The vet told me that when cats mate and the are family related they are usually fine. However you should prevent that to happen get him neutered now before she comes in heat.

I have brother and sister cats and made the mistake of not getting one of them fixed. They ended up mating at about 8 months old. The kitten was not mutant or anything and we still have him, he is a sweetheart. I don't recommend this though, you never know what might happen.

I once had a brother and sister cat that did mate before I could get them fixed. All of the kittens died but one and I swear I think it had mental problems. It was not normal as far as behavior goes. I am not a vet but I do know that they will mate and the results at least in my case was not good. I would keep them apart or get her spayed asap. Good luck

Yes they will mate. You should get at least one of them fixed as soon as possible to prevent a pregnancy. One of my cats had kittens when she was 9 months old which means she got pregnant at about 7 months.

Any time from 4 months, cats will sexually mature, and they could care less if it's incest.

Get them fixed now! Help prevent contributing to the 10 million dogs & cats euthanized each year, because there simply aren't enough homes...

yes they will mate with eachother. I would suggest that you try and seperate them until you can get them fixed. and I would get them fixed as soon as possiable. keep in mind once a male starts to spray there is a chance that even after getting him neutered he will continue to spray. Make an appointment today for them.

They are already mature...and are probably "mating" as we speak. Her very first heat cycle will produce inbred kittens. Females hit their first kitten heat at anywhere between 4 and 7 months. You need to get them fixed...now!
