God already knows what you are going to do, before you do it. If you make a promise to God and break the promise... you are only breaking the promise to yourself. If you can't keep a promise because of reasons beyond your control, then you did not commit a sin. It's only a sin if you know that the promise you made, was in fact a lie, and you never intended on keeping the promise. God and others will view you as a "good" or "bad" person based on your actions and the effects of your actions on others. It doesn't matter... as long as you can live with yourself and the results of your broken promises. You can't lie your way to Heaven and people don't respect or trust those who make promises they never keep.

Breaking your promise to anyone, whether God or a friend, is not good. It shows you to be undependable. God does say, let your "yes" be "yes" and your "No" be "no", meaning don't make promises you can't keep.

If you want people to trust and depend on you, you need to keep your promises. If you have failed someone, God or other, you need to make things right by asking them to forgive you.

God, however, is different in that HE always keeps His promises. You can depend on that. What He says He will do, He does do. And He says, if you confess your sin, He is faithful to forgive. So if you ask Him, He will forgive. But He doesn't forgive what you don't ask to be forgiven of. That is why seeking forgiveness is a daily thing.

Your promise/vow that you make to God is very important and it does matter big time. Read Psalm 15:4. That's just one verse among many which tells you about making and breaking promises to God. As one other verse says, it's better not to vow, than to vow and not fulfill. Think about that. God bless!

MAKING PROMISES THAT YOU DON'T, OR ARE UNABLE TO KEEP IS NOT WISE! THAT IS WHY I WON'T MAKE PROMISES. BECAUSE IF I DON'T OR CAN'T FULFILL WHAT I HAD TOLD SOMEONE THAT I WAS GOING TO DO FOR THEM, THEN I KNOW THAT I DID NOT PROMISE THEM AND I WON'T FEEL GUILTY OR TERRIBLE ABOUT IT, AND I AM NOT COMMITTING A SIN! I KNOW THAT I CAN ASK GOD FOR HIS FORGIVENESS, AND THAT ALSO SOMETIMES THINGS DO HAPPEN THAT IS UNEXPECTED AND WILL CAUSE ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP MY PROMISE. BUT EVEN SO IT WILL STILL MAKE ME FEEL BAD! SO THAT IS THE REASON WHY I DON'T BELIEVE IN MAKING PROMISES AT ALL!

All sins are bad. None is greater than another. They are all bad and God will not look upon sin or the sinner. That means God will not look upon you or hear you, unless you accept His son Jesus as your savior, and repent of your sins.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him

a covenant with anyone is important. God knows that we cannot keep all of our promises on this earth, that is why we can ask for foregiveness.

that does not mean that we can continue to make promises that we know we cannot or will not keep. because even when you ask for foregiveness, God knows what is in your heart.

kind of like a certain president that said he was sorry, to the u.s.a for having an illicit affair.

was he sorry that he did it in the first place, or was he sorry that he got caught?

Let your yes mean yes, and your no mean no. Make no promises by heaven, since it is God's kingdom, nor by earth, since it is God's footstool, nor by yourself, since you cannot make one hair on your head naturally black nor white. (can't remember the verse, and my headache is too big to look it up).

If you say you're gonna do something, then do it. If you say you won't do something, don't do it. Doing otherwise makes you a liar, and lying is sin... and the wages of sin is death. So, yeah, it does matter.
