If you do not like the choices you have, change religions or countries or both. Sounds like a big deal, but you are not obligated to be in a religion or believe a religion. Religion is a personal choice. You do not need a church to have a Religion. And you can find many countries that have most or all of the freedoms we have in the US.
I guess my answer is that you should not limit your choices down to the point that you are put in the position of having to chose one or the other, and who is defining these choices for you. There are different interruptions to religiosity and democracy.

Why in the real world would that ever have to be an issue? We have George Bush, an absolute christian, nazi taliban fundamentalist. But we stay here, even tho he has gotten us into a war that he himself admits were for all the wrong reasons. When I travel, and get asked where I am from, I say Canada. God forgive America.

My religion. No matter which country I live in, my religion will be the same, although my nationality would change. If it wasn't for God, we would have no world and therefore, no countries.

My religion which is my relationship with my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. It will never end in this life or the next. My country will not matter in the final scheme of things.
