Is there something I can substitute vegtable oil with when baking cake?

It is a box cake mix requiring vegtable oil. can I use crisco?

You would have to melt the crisco first and measure the liquid to be the same as the amount of veg. oil you need......

Apple Sauce. It will make the cake moister also as well as cutting down on the fat content. Can use it instead of oil in any baking recipes, including muffins. I have used it many times myself.

Butter or margarine (after sitting them out until room termp) are typically a great substitute for oil. It makes the cake taste more rich, buttery and moist than oil in my opinion.

I would use butter. as much as I love olive oil, it is not the oil to use in a cake. It will alter the flavor especially the extra virgin as it has a more intense flavor. I think that person was trying to trick you.
The applesauce will work too if you want the lower fat.....

Applesauce is a GREAT substitute!
Less calories and makes your cake or muffins nice and moist!
You can use it in almost any baked good!
Brownies, nut or fruit breads, cakes, muffins etc...
Not sure about using it in cookies though, havent tried that.

melt it or maragine or even butter depending on the cake it self, if you want a low fat idea applesauce and a tablespoon of oil, this mimics the fullness of all the extra oil
