I used to get the same feeling when I was a kid, but not as an adult. Maybe it's expanding the cheeks too far and forcing air into the tissues. When I blow up a ballon now, I don't let my cheeks expand out, I am able to force the air into the balloon with them expanding.

Its from exercisng muscles you normally wouldn't, like exercising any other part of the body that's not 'worked' often.

OH I HATE that feeling. It's horrible. I always figured it was from expanding your cheeks too far.

i don't get that feeling for some reason i blow ballons qiute big and really fast too till they pop in just 12 seconds sorry could be the pressure when you blow
