I'm not aware the word "Catholic" is mentioned in the Bible, as Lutheran, Baptist (the religion), Presbyterian, Methodist, Protestant, etc. are also omitted from the Bible. As they all fall under "Christianity" then you could say they are mentioned in that way.

If there are such things as "false prophets", then I would imagine some of them identify with the Catholic religion as well as many others.

The comment is ill formed and fails to make a point.

It's truth. THe word catholic is not in the bible and the apostles never called themselves Catholic (or else it would be in the Bible). The word Catholic was used sparingly during the first century and then it was a WORD, not the Title of a Church. Because when they Church came along it was the Roman Catholic Church... or the Roman "Universal" Church. Kind of hard to be Universal and "Roman". The original use, like I said, was a word that meant Universal. It in no way was a title of a Church till much later (a couple of centuries later, after the Fall of Rome).

And one thing that really puzzles me... why does the "Church" come out of Rome? When Jesus was in Israel?

The word "catholic" comes from 2 greek words "kata" and "holos". When combined it literally means something like "of the whole" and generally means the whole of the church or the universal church. The idea behind the word as it was originally used is that there should not be factions or divisions of the church. Catholicism, however, has factions within its own church, not to mention the other denominations of Christianity, many of which descended from protestant Catholics and eventually developed into their own versions from there.

As for whether the word Catholic appears in the Bible, I could not tell you for certain, but if it did, it may have appeared in the greek versions of the4 bible to represent the above information.

Hope that helps.

Neither arrogance nor truth - just stupidity. No such word as "Catholic" in the Bible?! Fine! No such word as Episcopal either, or Lutheran, or Presbyterian, or any other Christian faith. Doesn't mean there aren't people out there practising those faiths. And the only place where you'll find "Baptist" is right after "John the".

Your friend is an idiot - tell her Tom said so.

It is truth, but not the entire truth.

The word "catholic" is not found in the Bible. Neither are the word "trinity", "rapture", or "bible".

There are false prophets in nearly every religion out there. Theya re not confined to the Catholic faith. I am sure there are false prophets in the faith that she follows.

Arrogant indeed.

There is no mention of Lutheran, Methodists, Calvinists, and outside of John the Baptist, there is no mention of a religion called Baptists in the Bible either. There is, however, a whole book in the Bible called Hebrews.

good question. the pope could be looked at as a false prophet, due to some of the pople look up to him instead of god. (and as far as that religion goes, the bible says to tithe and to give to the poor, says that its easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle then a rich man enter the kingdom of heaven - pope is by far richer then many people out there... youd think hed do somethign with all the jewels/gold he wears/has? perhaps use castle to house some homeless?
