I never was in your situation because my parents kept me and have been married ever since I can remember and before. I don't think it's normal to worry about that as much as you are.

I am adopted and I don't know who my Mother or Father is. Have you ever lived with a family most of your life and then wake up one morning and find out they are not your real family . I was 7 when i found this out. I'm now 43 and still don't know. But by law you have a right to know who your father is. Start questioning your mother. get as much info from her you can. The internet will help you with the rest. Plus you need this info for medical history.

I, personally, have never been in your situation. I have a three-year-old daughter that does not know her biological dad and has been adopted by my husband (her step-dad). Is your mother open with you about this? I want to be as open with my daughter as possible. When she is old enough, I will help her find him if that's what she wants. I can answer any questions she has about him until then. Just know that no matter what the outcome of this is, your mom and step-dad love you very much. It takes a special kind of person to step in where someone else has failed to do their part and your step dad has my upmost respect for that. Don't turn to alcohol or marijuana to solve your problems- they merely help you mask and elevate the situation. Look into counseling or building a stronger relationship with the parents you do have.

But you don't need to ruin your life just because of these un answered questions
I also drink a lot, but not because of those problems, I drink while listening to music and working on my computer, answering questions, surfing and then go to sleep.
I did not live with a step father, my mother did not marry anymore,,,
But yes I did have those questions when I was younger, wondering who really was my father.
Fortunately, I grow up with my grandparents, mother side. and my grandmother from my father's side would always want me to visit her.
I saw my father only once, he went to USA when I was born. He came back to our country and that was only when I saw him, I was only 5yrs old then..
Then he went back to US where he has a family,, ,but then I still wondered,
Was he really my father...
You have a life full ahead. don't ruin it with drugs, specially marijuana,,, etc.,,
Be thankful you are alive..be thankful for your life, and don't ruin yourself with what you are not.
Good luck..

I can completly understand where you are coming from. I found out just recently that my father that i grew up and raised me was my step father. and the my real father was my birth father was killed in vietnam. neither of my parents told their parents that they were having "me" a child. so my fathers parents never knew of me. when i think of this it makes my head spin too. my mother to this date still cant talk about my father. i use to drink too. I just cant understand why why why they wouldnt let my father birth father tell his parents they had me. my mom says that her and my father were suppose to be married when he got back. but he never made it back. so the secret "me" was just let out of the bag or closet or what ever just recently. I do alot of writing and writing and writing. and when I look at it later. I am amazed at what i wrote. maybe you could write and journal also. it might help ease your mind at ease a little. but i do understand where you are coming from
