I just purchased a male Parakeet, and the salesperson told me,that I had to purchase a female also, because the male will die of loneliness. Is this true? . (I don't mind purchasing the female)

NO! Not at all! Thats utter nonsense!Just be sure to give your bird toy's,change them frequently so he does not get bored,or fall "in love" with any of them!! Solitary birds do sometimes get fixated on one particular toy! Try to be around your bird as much as possible. If you are out most of the day, leave a radio on.They do like music!! Place your birds cage somewhere where he can see activity, but not in sunlight. Be aware of the movement of the sun.If you are not worried about your bird talking, then place a mirror in the cage, he will chatter to himself. If you want your bird to learn to talk, do NOT place a mirror in there. Trust me,your bird will be fine! Good luck with him!

No! The salesperson wants to take your money. If you are going to spend time with it and want it to bond to you by all means keep it by itself. If you have a male you have potential for a talking friend. I think they make the nicer pet. Now, if you just bought a budgie to sit in a cage and admire from a distance, then go purchase a female so he is not lonely.

NO!!
absoulutley not true

if you purchase a female then the male will get attached to it and mate and so on, but n turn will not be friendly.
if you purchased a femlae let them breed and keep them together for a while, then remove the female, he may possibly die, but you do not have to purchase another one!

No, but unless you have a tamed bird that you plan on handling and paying attention to (especially morning and evening) your bird would probably be happier in the long run if it had a cage mate. The birds in the cage together will bond more to each other than to you, so if you bought a tamed bird it will be less responsive to you.

well, he won't really DIE. there's a 50% chance he could. I would get the female if i were you because if he doesn't have a mate, he could die, but mostly he won't chirp, and won't really be active because of the lonliness. he also could risk dying, for he won't eat or drink too much, he'd be too busy thinking about how is life would be with another bird. i have a male and a female, and whenever i look at them they are chirping away as if they were good old friends, and they eat and drink regularily. think about it; if you were with all your friends and all of a sudden you got seperated and had no one to talk with, wouldn't YOU be lonely? wouldn't you want to be with your friends? So therefore, he could die. i would get another one instead of risking it.

No, it's not true, they just want you to spend more money. If you play and interact with him daily he'll be fine, if you don't he definitely will get lonely but won't die.
