too many
there is still only
ONE church
ONE GOD
And
Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Jam 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

I would estimate approximately a little over 6 billion different religions in the world, the same as the numer of people. I'm sure this is not the kind of answer you were looking for, but I think you get my point. Call it my own particular point of view or religion - everyone has their own little personal world view and philosophy and beliefs and no two ever people agree on everything.
More toward the question as you intended, the page I gave for a reference below lists an estimate of about 10,000 distinct and identifiable religions. This is just one of many pages that appeared by Yahoo Search of the words: number of religions

There are so many religions in this world. Sadly many of these "religions" are not classed as such as they are relatively new to "the world" and technically not termed as a "religion" by society's terms. The first link I've given gives only a listing of the "main" religions of the world.
A good example of the vast amount of religions can be seen in the last scene of a really interesting Science Fiction series called Babylon 5. In the episode "Parliament of Dreams" (season 1, episode 5) the ship's captain has to describe to the alien ambassadors what the religion on Earth is. Sinclair does this by showcasing "Earth's dominant culture" by lining up one representative of each religion on Earth, from atheism to Buddhism to Eskimo to you-name-it, in a tremendous line of people who the camera tracks for several seconds before the eventual fade-out.

Obviously not enough, because no-one can agree on the answer to the question of which one is the right faith. I guess people just feel the need to pollute the world with more superstition. And we should never bow our heads to anyone. It's all mind control to keep the masses from asking the really important questions, like why do we put up with taxes?

There are thousands - and each has thousands or millions of adherents who are absolutely sure that they and only they are correct. Since they can't all be right (they contradict each other in as many ways as you can imagine), I have come to the conclusion that no one of them is! So hold your head high and don't bow it to anyone.

There are too many religions to count. And you should worship which ever moves you in you heart and soul be it Christianity, Buddhism, Islam or Wicca. Go with what feels right to you... just don't force your beliefs down another persons throat.

In the real sense of the word, there is only one religion, the religion of love which speaks the language of the heart.
