What if the Qur'an, the Gospels, and the Tanakh were just stories based on legends that happened in Middle East and were basically just metaphors pertaining to daily life in the middle east to referrence as a guide to a better life? That's what I believe. I'm from Iraq, the Birthplace of all the great religions. I was born a Chaldean Catholic in Baghdad, Iraq. My family fled durring the Iraq/Iran war to Iran with the help of Kurdish rebels and came to America via Greece in 1988. My ancestors have been Christian since the foundation of the Assyrian Church of the East in the 5th century and Catholic since part of the church joined in Communian with the Roman Catholic Church in the 19th century. I was brought up in a religious houselhold and this is a product of my own analysis.

By the way. I HAVE read the ENTIRE Bible from Genesis to the book of Revelations. I prefer the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. The rest I feel are additional reads to better familiarize yourself with the ancient Near East and its culture.

I wish I had space to really answer this in my own way. Suffice it to say, they are stories and legends, but they are good ones. I, for one, know there is a God. I don't know what it is, where it is or any of that. I just know It exists. I go to Catholic mass in a church, because I feel solace there, but this God of mine in not imprisoned there, nor have Its good works ceased with the end of the written word in the Bible. My God is available and with me 24/7 no matter where I am or what I am doing.
The big "concern" to me is that almost all of us monotheists believe in the same God, yet we condemn other monotheists for their beliefs. And I know that condemning others is not a teaching of Jesus Christ.
The only thing that truly matters to me, is through the traditions that have been handed down, I have a map to look at, to try to find my own way to salvation.

Why would you assume they were anything BUT stories and legends?
If one cannot demonstrate the basis for a claim (in this case that a god or gods actually exist), the details of what the deity "said" are rather irrelevent.
Ditto for astrology, etc.. If one can't prove that the planets at the time of one's birth have an effect on one's entire life, no amount of calculations and devinations are going to improve the hocus pocus.

I believe that the holy books are just books of morals, to give strength and hope when we're in doubt. There is just no way to proof if they are real or not. But no matter what, they are supposedly there to keep us safe and make us a better person.
Selfish people abused the power of holy books and its teaching to spread unethical ideas to their advantages. Everyone should reach within themselves and USE THEIR CONSCIENCE TO DECIDE IF IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO OR NOT. But I digress, to answer your "what ifs.." I guess it doesn't matter... just listen to your heart and believe what you need to believe to make you a better person.

We could say what if to alot of things but one thing you'd better be real sure about is eternity and how your going to spend it. We're here on this earth just a short time and what you do while your here does make a difference. I choose to believe in a Holy God whom I spend time with every day. I have faith that when I die I will spend all eternity with him.

here is the defining truth. People who read the scriptures and have not made the decision to be God's friend, have a hard time reading them and an even harder time understanding them. People who actually are God's friends like to read His work and get inspiration and insight (new insight often each time they read it anew) when they read or hear the unadulterated word of God. This is something that happens instantaniously. If someone does not to read God's words and says he is a friend of God they are either fooled by religeous leaders or they are lieing. When you meet someone who is a friend of God and discuss Him with that person you will know the power and the truth, which you can denie or accept and become a friend of God. Keep searching it sounds like God is drawing you to himself. I have been where you are, it is not as wonderful as it is here. No words can explain it. When I read them God talks to me and I know that they are not "just" stoies and or legends

They wheren't, get over it, The Bible is truth, point-blank-and-period. How is it a legend if it was written at exactlly the same time as it happened(within the life time of the writters) and it was unchange(except for translation purposes)? for a story to become a legend it has to change over a long period of time.

What if the "Holy" books were just stories and legends...?
Most of them are!
Only The Christian Bible is the REAL word of The God.
The rest were dictated by a demon - or tampered with drastically to adjust it to the Cults thinking..
I prefer the KJV by far! Have to learn 30 archaic words-- but wort hit.

Even Fairy tales and comic books offers some to lessons in life. You should be glad there are people who wrote in pursuit of giving stories to give entertainments, lessons and some things to respect yourself and life itself.
