I practice/experience relaxation through self-hypnosis. I sit in my easy chair, breathe a couple of deep breaths, and then slowly count down from 10 to 0 (in my mind), and say the number when I exhale.

By the time I get to 0 I can feel my right hand become heavy, and after a few minutes my left hand will do so too, but mainly the right one. I then say to/ask myself(in my mind) to be calm and relax over and over, in a slow, comfortable way. With practice you will feel the tension exiting various parts of your body, and if you're feeling tension in any particular part, like your jaw, back of the neck, eyes, etc. concentrate on that one area and calmly ask those muscles to relax, and they will.

Sometimes I'll think I've only been sitting there 25-30 minutes and when I come up(usually by counting from 1-5), an hour or more will have passed. This technique takes some practice, but within a few days to a week or so it'll work for you if you stick with it.

For a book to read on various ways to be calm and relax in an instant get Instant Calm by Paul Wilson. He has 100 techniques for relaxing/becoming calm, and you're very likely to find some techniques that will work for you. You can get it through amazon.com or some other site for $15.00 plus shipping if you can't find it in a local bookstore.

I wish you best!
