I have a lot of things going on in my life right now...One major thing is a test I am going to take this weekend, the Praxis II, to get certified to teach. Well I have been a total nerve wreck, I get frustrated and cry and yell and do and say a lot of stuff I don’t mean. I just feel so overwhelmed. Anyone have any suggestions of some herbal or vitamins that might help relieve and calm my nerves?

I have a couple of suggestions, but I am not familar with herbal or vitamin remedies to help you unfortunately.

I find meditation works really good. It is square breathing. Breathe in for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, and breathe out for a count of 4. This calms down the mind.

Turn on the alarm before turning in. Give yourself pleanty of time to eat and get ready. Being in a rush will make things really frazzled. Meditate before going to bed, and it will help calm down the mind to get some sleep.

Eat a good breakfast before leaving. This will stop the hunger.

Before the exam, meditate again even just for three cycles before starting the exam. Also go to the bathroom before entering the testing site because having to go will be very distractful during the exam.

Good luck!

Take a walk around the block, and breathe deeply as you go. After you take the test, resolve to start simplifying your life. Cut back on the commitments, and don't be so hard on yourself.
Many of us are raised to believe that if we aren't going a mile a minute, we're standing still. Give yourself a day off every ten or so days. You'll feel better in a few weeks. At the height of my course load in college, I rescheduled all my classes so I would have one day a week without school. Do that with all of your activities, and things will begin to look better. B.

Herbal remedy, St. John's Wort, in the vitamin section, will calm you down. Or Melatonin, in the vitamin section. Best thing, download a hypnosis MP3, about $20, it will help you handle stress and anxiety. Hypnosis takes about two to three weeks to kick in fully, but you might feel the benefits the first time around, who knows. Anyhow, best of luck, relax, give up the junk food, sugar, and fast food. Get a good meal, go to bed early after a relaxing bath, slow down. Talk to God, you'll be surprised. Best of luck.

I used to smoke and that worked for me, ie: the trip outside and the alone deep breathing time with the hand/mouth comfort habit. Had to quit for health reasons. Now I still take the alone time and breathe. Even if I can't get alone and I feel the tension about to break - usually on my husband's head, after he's done something particularly dumb.

Try this. 1. Breathe in thru your nose to the slow count 1 - 5. Hold breath for fast count 1-5. Then blow out thru your mouth to the slow count of 1 - 5. It is an old martial arts technique to focus your chi. Nowadays they call it a relaxation exercise.

Hope it helps.

Kava Kava is an herb that will help you relax. You might try going for a run or a bike ride to have some time to reflect on things and think about things.

Do something completely unrelated to studying, go watch a funny movie, have a drink, let your mind rest for a little bit.

Privet has it right, you need some activity that is unrelated to what is stressing you out. Yoga helps me to relax, and though you may laugh at the suggestion of masturbation, sexual release is also a good stress reliever. Go to your significant other, knock him down and take him! LOL
