Were they flawed in their creation, what is the function of that thing anyway?

The only thing flawed is the belief that science and religion can be discussed in the same sentence. If you believe in Creationism or Intelligent Design, then I leave it to you to explain several things:
1) Why humans even have an appendix?
2) Why men have nipples?
3 ) Where did Cain and Abel's wives come from
4) If Cain and Abel's wives were also children of Adam and Eve, was that incest?
5) If Cain and Abel's children were cousins, who did they mate with, and was that incest?
Anyone care to form a society to keep religion out of science and government?

At one point doctors thought the tonsils were useless leftovers of the evolutionary process. We know now that they are important parts of the immune system. While the function of the appendix is not clear now, perhaps someday it will be. God did not create us with spare parts.
In reply to the gentleman poster with with similar questions:
1. Males have nipples because, initially all embryos are "female", in form. The sex organs do not differentiate until the 12 week in utero. The nipples, obviously, form before this.
2. the Bible does not mention whether or not Abel had a wife. When Cain was banished he took one of his sisters as wife.
3. This was not incest as we know it because the gene pool was much much larger then. The same would hold true for succeeding generations.

You don't have the whole story. The appendix was overlooked by the creator as he was quickly fixing the BIG mistake. When first Eve sauntered toward the apple tree she had a penis. And Adam had a vagina. Eve looked so overburdened with body parts and Adam so emaciated, that God panicked and worked overtime to correct the error. The appendix thing was overlooked. Hence, doctors get rich and insurance premiums go up. Go figure.

Adam and Eve were a good creation not flawed like you and I. If you are refering to what I believe you are than that appendix serves more functions than one.

They were given freedom of choice. Its not really a flaw as much as it is a chance to be an individual versus being a Zombie.

As I understand it, humans used to need it for digestion infections, but as we evolved, it became no longer useful.
