Well of course certain groups of nonChristians have misinterpretated this number in the Bible. It is a multiplication of the number 12 for the 12 tribes described in the Old Testament. I believe it has to do with the number of Jews who will be converted not the number of persons who will be saved....but I don't have my Bible in front of me that would offer a clearer explanation. Oh, and if my memory serves me right, the number is actually representational of the large number of Jews that will be saved. It is not a number to be taken literally.

Don't you believe it. The 144000 only going to heaven is a Jehovah Wittiness teaching, and the Catholics don't guarantee a person going to heaven by declaring them a saint. Read the bible, try one of the four gospels, like John and see for your self how this thing works. I wish you the best.

Actually, it's the number of people who have and will ever live on earth, to 144,000. - All that then, even goes against the teachings of Christ who said he would save everyone ... now how the hell can that be? Can't have your cake and eat it too. Somethin's fishy about that. Hmm?

You haven't read the assignment have you?
Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Rev 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
Rev 7:11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
Rev 7:12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?
Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Rev 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
Rev 7:16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
Rev 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Psa 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Not really. Most of the saved live on the New Earth, not in Heaven, a fact most believers seem unaware of (as with most of the teachings of their religion)..

Sylvia Browne says that most people make it to the other side, so that has to be more than 144,000.
