Hey, I wanna answer this even though I'm an atheist.
A lot of religious folk, christian muslim and the like, see the venom floating around here, some even from me. Because they cannot separate the existence of their chosen deity from the IDEA of the existence of their chosen deity, an attack on the idea is viewed as an attack on their deity.
For example. You believe in Oombababaou. I don't. In fact, I find belief in Oombababaou hilarious. So I start making, "your oombabababaou is so fat" jokes. For me, I'm making fun of your belief. For you though, I'm directly attacking Oombababaou.
When you take a step back, it's easy to see why they feel we're attacking their gods. For them, they see a god that can be attacked, for atheists, we're just having some fun, if often mean-hearted, at their beliefs.
And hey, at least I'm honest enough to say some of it is intentionally mean-hearted. I try to keep my venom for the venomous though, and my sincerity for the sincere.
---------------
Oh, and lesleypierre, I own five copies, including NIV and KJV amongst them, and before my conversion to atheism, read them all dilligently and prayerfully, convinced absolutely of their truth. I continue to study them, despite no longer having faith in their absolute truth.
A Bible doesn't make you faithful - being overwhelmed by Truth and needing answers instead of accepting 'I do not know' as a valid answer makes a person faithful. Faith is the absence of reason.

I can honestly say I have never said that any athiest hated God. As you said, how can you hate something you do not believe in? Personally I can't understand how anyone could not believe in God but that is a choice everyone has to make for themselves. I applaud your honesty and your keeping so cool and calm about it. So many would rant and rave and call names and such and make a real jerk of themselves so give yourself a pat on the back. You made a very good point.

Would not hating something mean that you believe in it? If someone truly does not believe in something they can not possibly 'hate' it because to them it doesn't exist.
As for the Christians who make that claim, it is their fear speaking. The chance that they are wrong about things frightens them and a true atheist will remind them of that, but not by any action, just as a presence of something beyond the Christians 'bubble' of beliefs.

Hate can be defined as active ill will. The atheists on this forum actively speak out against God and His followers at every opportunity. How is that not hate? If you truly do not believe in the fact of His existence, why does what we say bother you? Why condescend to even acknowledge what we say? Personally, I couldn't care less whether a Pastafarian says I'm gonna die and go to the Great Gullet. Why does Hell bother you?

I have no idea why people state that you hate God. I don't feel you hate Him, and I don't believe that the few people that hold that opinion speak on behalf of Christians everywhere. In fact, from my understanding of Christianity - which is quite vast - Go loves everyone and tells us to be kind and loving to everyone as well. I'm sorry that you're being harassed by these close minded people. The Bible teached that God is love and He chose to give everyone free will to decide for themselves what they want to believe. But Jesus also teaches that He is the only way, truth and light and that if you are not baptized in Jesus name with water and with the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in tongues that you are not saved and will be cast into a lake of fire.

It seems a pretty simple concept, you can't hate something if you don't believe in it. You can't have feelings either way. Simple enough but they just don't get it.
I feel the same frustration toward people who say stuff like, well what you believe is your choice. No its not. How do you make yourself believe in something that isn't there? The problem is they have no concept of logic.

God does not "hate pigs". whilst God made pigs He appeared at them and mentioned they have been "sturdy" like each and every the different animals (see Genesis financial disaster a million). The prohibition on ingesting beef, and different meals, substitute right into a "ceremonial uncleanness" area of the various stuff God set as much as make the Jews a different human beings continually wide awake of their distinction. Jesus Christ fulfilled each and all of the ceremonial purposes of thec Jewish human beings, so whilst He got here each and every person of those ceremonial standards grew to become out of date. Muslims nevertheless do no longer eat beef by using fact they have not realised Jesus Christ did away with this prohibition..examine the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles and you will see for your self. delight on your Beaverbrook bagel.

Double talking here, you don't believe nor do you hate him? I thought an atheist does not believe the existence of God. So how could you not hate something that isn't there?
To me God has given everyone that is on this earth a desire to know him but we as foolish people lie to our self and try to lie to others.I am not buying it. Thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts.

We do not mock God, we mock Christian's beliefs about God. There is a big difference. I do not hate God, I hate some of the things people do in God's name...like actively promoting ignorance or being proud of having a solidly closed mind.
