i prefer to be spiritual rather than religious... Jesus didn't like religion or religious persons cuz they just want to follow rituals and make up all these prayers and traditions. being spiritual is more of a personal relationship with God and doing His will without all the showmanship.

Some excellent answers here already. I would just add that spirituality does not necessarily have anything to do with "God" as perceived by organized religions. It is a feeling of being connected with something outside the self, whether that be nature or humanity, or some concept of a supreme being or force.

Religion is political-- it is the church trying to deterimine our beliefs for us and control our mind. It is a business, as we give them money through the government, tithes, and offerings. That is not to say church is a bad thing, but many, too many, are just in it for the cash, unfortunately.
Spirituality is following the divine in your own way, on your own or with friends of like mind. It is basically pure belief and independent study to decide what you believe, as well as individual communion with God, the greater spirit, or whatever larger entity you believe exists.
I prefer, obviously, spirituality, being cynical about churches after having seen to many only after the money by any means necessary and too bent on frightening the parishoners into submission. I don't believe you should be told what to believe, but should decide for yourself.
So decide for yourself-- what is your preference?

Religion is a means by which to experience spirituality. Spirituality is the way one experiences the awe of one's existence and surroundings. I am very spiritual, but not so religious. I am a pagan who is deeply grounded by the experiences of beauty in nature, but I don't personally feel the need to give my "gods" names. God and Goddess, Mother and Father are good enough for me. I only use religious names to tribute specific aspects of the above...

Religion is a group of people held together because of common beliefs.

Religion is a set of practices that you are taught and then perform. I prefer relationship over religion, I have a close personal relationship with Christ I love Him and He loves me. I would never consider myself religious

Religion is going through the motions, rituals. Spirituality is actually feeling and experiencing. I choose spirituality.

I believe religion would be having a belief in and reverence for a deity. Spirituality would be what comes from within yourself and what you create and believe.
