Yes you do Special Constables have all the same powers as sworn Police officers even off duty. And as for the last reply saying" they can hold you for 30 Min's until a real police officer turns up that is a PCSO". And why would want to even think about hitting a police officer you would get into just as much trouble if you thumped any one not just a police officer. Try thinking about what you are saying.

They have exactly the same powers as a normal police officer, they just do it for the fun of it. You have to obey their "lawful" commands, but as with a regular police officer they have to be acting within the scope of the law. As a serving police constable i have met many "specials" and most of them are only doing it because they can't join as a regular police officer and were bullied as children!!!!!

Yes you do, they have a valid Warrant card and have the same powers of arrest as regular Police officers.
Additionally if you were to hit one you would be charged with Aggravated assault which if found guilty could face up to 2 yrs custodial sentence over and above what you would get for actual bodily harm (s47 offences against the person act)

In some states a special constable has alot of authority.
With that said, if they are a sworn officer no matter what thier position, you have to obey them
