1. Don't subsidize agricultural foods (and reducing export of those subsidized stuff). Result1: lesser energy is needed to transport stuff. Result2: fairer to the poorer countries.
2. Don't import things you can grow, build or create yourself. Result1: lesser energy is needed to transport stuff.
3. Introduce a 1 or 2 year community service duty for everyone.
4. Forbid the production of cars (right now) which consume more then 1 liter of gas per 10 km. per 1000kg of car, when running 90 km/h). In 2010: max. 1l. per 20 km. per 1000kg of car.
5. Raise taxes for heavy cars. Raise them high! Too many Americans drive suv's and pickup trucks, when they don't need those big cars at all.
6. For deskjobs and the like: forbid to live more then 15 miles from the workplace. Result1: lesser energy is needed to transport stuff. Result2: considerably less people will die in traffic. Result3: many people (the ones who don't need to transport much stuff) then can use bicycles instead of cars.
7. For deskjobs: 33% of the jobs must be done by remote working (remote control the business desktop computer, or just work at home). In 2010: 50%. Since Windows always produces blue screens and then gets stuck, people will have to use Mac or Linux or/and other Open Source software. Result1: lesser energy is needed to transport stuff/people.
8. Use alternative energy resources: tidal energy, solar power, wind power, geothermic energy. Water energy is better then to burn fossil fuels, but small (scale) projects are better then the huge ones. Use all those alternative energies to store them in cars like in hydrogen propulsion systems.
9. When driving into a big city: you HAVE TO pick up others which also want to go into the city. If you can't find people to travel with, you may not enter the city other then by mass transportation. Your car stays behind. Result1: lesser energy is needed to transport stuff/people. Result2: way better city air.
10. Double or triple the plane fuel taxes (for transport of people, esp. for overseas lines). Result1: lesser people will go on far away holidays. Result2: lesser money will go abroad (=dollar will get 'stronger'/will gain in value).
11. Expand current nature parks and/or create new ones.
12. Use airballoons for tourists to fly over nice things (like the Grand Canyon) instead of small planes and heli's (prohibit the last two).
13. Very important: having more then 1 child should be way harder (tax methods, let adopt the 2nd child, etc. etc.). Many bad environmental issues are for a great part the result of just too many people living in a small space.
14. Material (packiging) which have long decay times should be prohibited or at least have way higher taxes and a re-collection system.
Etc. etc. etc.

What the problem is: people are afraid for their (political) positions and for loss of their personal belongings (salary), that's why they don't dare to introduce the nessecary steps. 1: If they WOULD introduce those steps, less money is needed (like, to drive the car). 2: If they WOULD introduce those steps, the environment we live in, would greatly improve. You can have a huge amount of money, but what is it good for if you can't live in a clean and nice environment (also for your (grand)children).

Total result: hurricanes will reduce in power, people will have lesser poor air related sicknesses, reduction of the loss of warm water current in the ocean (the one at the left at New York), etc. etc.
