I DON'T THINK HE RAN AWAY. HE WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD AND ALWAYS STAYED IN THE YARD. I THINK MY FAMILY IS NOT TELLING ME THE TRUTH. THEY KEEP SAYING HE RAN AWAY OR THAT SOMEONE TOOK HIM, BUT HE'S SO FAST NO ONE COULD CATCH HIM (EVEN ME) AND HE HID SO WELL THAT I COULD NEVER FIND HIM. BUT HE ALWAYS WOULD SHOW UP WHEN HE HEARD THE CAT FOOD OPENING. I THINK SOMEONE KILLED HIM AND THEY'RE NOT TELLING ME.

HELP!

YES I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA AND HE LOVED TO STAY OUTSIDE ALL DAY CATCHING MICE WITH HIS BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER. HE WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD BUT FULLY GROWN.

THE NIGHT HE DISSAPEARED, FAMILY MEMBER HAD A GET-TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS SO I'M THINKING ONE OF THEM RAN HIM OVER. AND HE LOVED TO HIDE UNDER THE HOOD OF CARS SO MAYBE ONE OF THEM STARTED THE ENGINE AND HE GOT HIS HEAD CUT OFF.

BUT I WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!!!!

HE WAS NEUTERED. SO WAS HIS BUDDY, ALSO NEUTERED.

AND THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER CATS AROUND HERE. AND WE LIVE ON A 10 ACRE FARM WHERE THERE IS A 5FT FENCH SURROUNDING THE PROPERTY. SO NO PREDATOR, PEOPLE OR ANYTHING COULD GET IN. EXCEPT RATS OR SNAKES THAT DIG IN.

AND I HEARD MY FATHER TELL MY BROTHER "DON'T TELL HIM, OK? DON'T TELL HIM...." THEN I WALK IN AND ASK WHAT AND HE SAYS NOTHING NOTHING.

So sorry.... Sometimes the truth is easier than your imagination.

My mom did this to me when I was about 10. I spent days (weeks?) looking for my kitty. Even saw one that looked like her in someone's window & knocked on the door asking for my cat back. My mom tended to have animals for a while, then give them away (my dog actually went to a new home on my birthday!)

She never admitted about that one kitty, but I later had another that died while I was at camp (she was very sick & I didn't want to go to camp that year). Although my mom had tears in her eyes when she told me, I thought she was just horrid. I just never saw the cat again.

When I was even younger - in kindergarten - someone hit our puppy with a car and it died. She told me it had been kidnapped. Didn't make any difference to me - she was GONE. Later she told me the truth...

So for those that responded "why would they lie?", I respond "It's entirely possible!"

Being outdoors is a grave danger for any cat, and a kitten is totally helpless. People don't let there babies run around outside without supervision, do they? (If they do, they'll be in jail soon!)

Why don't you show this message to your parents, and ask them to please tell you the truth. Let them know how you are feeling. If they are trying to hide something to avoid giving you pain, the imagination is probably worse than the truth. I know that. I've been there.

Please, before you get another kitten, have a talk with your parents about keeping it inside so it can grow up safely.

Hope you find your kitten. Good luck Sweetie.

An outdoor cat? It got hit by a car. If you let your little brother play in the street..he will probably also be hit by a car. This is why good parents and pet owners keep vulnerable members of the family inside where they are safe. I'm very sorry.....but cat's are NEVER meant to be outdoors. The ONLY exception is on a farm in a VERY rural area where the cat is ferral anyway.
Don't get another cat unless you learn how to keep it safe.

You will probably never know what happened to him. Try not to think the worst. Was he neutered? If not he probably went off with some female cat. If that's the case he may come back or you may just have to expect his gone. It's hard sometimes to keeps cats when you don't have them fixed if their allowed to go outside. I wish the best for you and I hope he returns.

When I was very young, I lived in the country and two people gave me kittens. My parents did not get them spayed and they both ended up pregnant. My parents had them killed and told me they ran away. I found this out after I grew up. Good thing I never got pregnant as a teenager.

Moral of the story: Never GIVE anyone a kitten. Let them get one if they want one. And two, SPAY and NEUTER your animals.

Does your family have a history of lying to you? Why on earth wouldn't they tell you the truth?

I had a cat that was 10 years old who ran away once. She was the best cat ever. It was really sad, but sometimes these things happen.

I would go with what your family is telling you. Why would you want to suffer in the knowledge that somebody killed your best friend? We used to have a little goose that my step dad bought us and everybody would always accidentally either step on him or drive over him with our bikes and such (we were very young) so they told us one day when we couldn't find our little goose that they took him to the doctor's place. So we went with that although we were suspicious but we let it go. Then months later they brought "him" back to us and he was a lot larger. We were all very thrilled to have him back. Well, I was about 8 or 9 years old when all that happened. I still remember it and I asked my mom about it the other day. She told me the truth since she thought now I may be able to handle it. She told me he died one day after all the stepping on and riding over (over his feet) that we would inadvertently do. I wasn't crushed but I was sorry we weren't more careful. Don't put yourself through that.

i think he probably ran away- yo should calm down and try not to worry to much- kittens and cats are VERY independant- so I would just keep an eye out for him, but it has been a week, I don't think he is comming back- someone probably found him- kittens are always wanted by people so they probably kept him for a pet- you could call the local humane society and see if someone has turned him in- I am sorry you have lost your kitty....

hey, hey! It's okay! I can relate. when my kitten was 6 months old he ran away ! there's nothing you can do about it. I suggest calling for him every night. put up posters about a lost cat but other than that there's nothing you can do. he may show up eventually. Mine did. It took a few weeks but he'll come round!

do your best to forgive.

That's freaky my first lil baby I got it.. and it was in the backyard it didn't like others and would only come to me. And I would meow and it would meow back and he would come to me and I miss him like crazy. But one day I meowed and he didn't meow back... and then I kept doing it and still nothing and from that day on I never saw him again. :( I miss him like crazy but thankfully I have another kitten on my lap now. MAH BABY. My dad said either someone stole him or he was eaten :(. I'll never know I'm hoping someone stole him that sounds better than being eaten.

yep, somebody probably ran him over

ask your parents for the truth

it is also entirely possible that another animal predator got him, stray dogs or rats in the city will prey on kittens...if you are in the country any number of other animals could have got him.
